If you want simple, traditional, great value and delicious food in the heart of Tavira then Casa Simao is the place to go. The interior is quite dated and with some long tables it almost feels like a dining hall. However the restaurant is clean, the staff friendly and the food is very tasty. This was excellent value for money and the food was traditional Portugese fare. I loved the lamb stew but you need to get there early for their specials. It is totally time-warped; looks like nothing has changed since the 1970s but you have to go to see for yourself! We went twice.....

The menu is very limited, but the prices are one of the cheapest in Tavira. The inside seating arrangements remind me of a works canteen, quite a lot of the tables are packed together in a long straight line. Decor is dull making the restaurant look dark and unappealing. But the main purpose of a restaurant is to provide good food,... More

Frequented mostly by locals so influenced by their tastes which is not a problem but if ordering fish tell them not to salt it as that ruined perfectly good food for our liking.Helpful and willing staff and undeniably cheap.

Very basic Portuguese restaurant, very cheap, not lots of choice, but enough, very cheap wine - house red is very cheap & very good, daily specials - not something for a special occasion I'd say but a more every day type of place.

I had frequented this place a few times in 2013 while wintering in Portugal and again several times this past spring (February - April). Always worth the trip to Tavira......ask them to tell you the weekly specials and head back for the days they have fresh squid or the stewed chicken. Both excellent dishes. The staff are friendly and the... More

We visit Tavira a lot and have never been disappointed by Simao. As other reviewers have mentioned, the wild boar stew is amazing, but I'd feel cheated if I went home without one of Simao's medium rare steaks. Polish off your meal with a glass of Tijuana - this is one of the few places left that stocks that wonderful... More

Following the lyrical reviews of previous reporters, we went to this restaurant, and to be brutally honest we were extremely disappointed. there are far better restaurants in Tavira. The quality of the food was poor, the service as ever in Portugal satisfactory, but where the 'rave' reviews came from I'll never know! I have thus far given mostly positive reviews... More
