Can anyone tell me if Casa Cota is still open? it is without doubt one of my favourite restaurants in Tavira but we have been there on 3 diferent evenings recently and it has been closed. I have also tried to telephone and only get a pre recorded message which is in Portuguese and beyond my capability to understand.

Tried this place after reading other reviews and wasnt disappointed. The restaurant is on the street behind the main riverfront just along from the square on the north side of the river. It serves a basic menu but everything was freshly cooked, portions generous and drinks cheap. The couple who own it dont really speak English but we took a... More

I love Casa Cota. It's that simple. If you enjoy fish, and if you want to eat somewhere where the owners really care about what they cook for you, this restaurant is a must. You can always ask the lovely owners to show you the fish selection so you can be really sure that you're ordering something fresh, and you'll... More

Our group of 10 people including 4 children had a huge, tasty lunch . It was traditional Portuguese food, large helpings with plenty of trimmings. The service was a little slow but the atmosphere was relaxing and friendly and we were on holiday. so it didn't matter. When we saw the bill we were amazed at the value for the... More

Staff spoke almost no English, but made up for it with kindness and great patience as I tried my limited Portuguese , but we got there in the end. My wife had the full little chicken, which was gorgeous and I had the swordfish which was very tasty, the restaurant was not very busy but that was probably down to the... More

We are staying at the Pousada, and very comfortable it is too, but wanted to a typical, local restaurant for dinner tonight. Casa Cota was a gem of a find & must be returned to when next in Tavira. Great cuisine, great service & we were made to be feel so welcome & at home. Amazing value, well worth seeking... More

After my first review we have re-visited on several occasions, the last being on New Years Day 2014. The food is simple traditional cusine, good portions, always consistently good and great value. The lamb chops were excellent. It is a family run restaurant, and the staff have always been very friendly, with a little english spoken.

During the first week of December it was difficult to find a restaurant in Tavira with any customers in it during the evening. This one was the only one we found which consistently had several tables taken. It is fairly small, relaxed and informal. The owners do not speak English but are friendly and welcoming. The menu is limited but... More

We read about this restaurant in The Telegraph travel section and we were not disappointed. We ordered the seafood cataplana (traditional copper clam-shaped pot and lid) after being shown raw octopus legs and prawns as the couple who run the place don't speak English but that doesn't hold them back from providing excellent service and a pleasant dining experience. The... More
