Great place

It was suggested on a "likealocal" map and it was an amazing place to stay and eat. We ate traditional dishes at reasonable prices, listening to live local music! Hearty food, great atmosphere (although the folk metal live band was slightly strange) and excellent hospitality. Would definitely recommend!

Brilliant place. Hearty and traditional menu with lots of beers to choose from. It feels a bit weird at first because it's downstairs and quite far back! So it doesn't seem open. But persevere! At about 11 it becomes a bit more lively with live music and spontaneous traditional dancing! Loved it.

I visited this restaurant with four friends. First impression when walking down the sais is may be not so promising, but in the end you will find very nice athmosphare and very good and reasonable priced food and beer. Most of us were ordering garlic bread as a starter, fortunately a waiter tipped that the size of this starter is... More

We had lunch in the Folkklubs Ala as per the recommendation in the InYourPocket Guide to Riga. The portions of traditional dishes were huge and cheap. If you're travelling on a budget or just really hungry, you need to visit this restaurant located in a vaulted cellar. The beer selection is from small microbrews in Latvia, though you might ask... After reading all the positve reviews, my boyfriend and I just had to try out this place when we visited Riga. And we were not disappointed! The place is located in a basement and is traditionally furnished. In the evenings there is often traditional live music. The place was quite full both evenings we were there, so prepare to share... If experiences define a city then this venue defines experience. What more can be said? A hidden underground gem with a fairly non-descript frontage, you'll appreciate more with every step inside. Service excellent, food excellent, drinks authentic and special. Cheap too. Highly recommended.

Although officially it is a pub (not only a restaurant), where locals come together in evenings to enjoy some tradittional singing and dancing, when it comes to serving Latvian tradittional food, Folkklubs Ala is simply the best! Beautifully served (big plates & BIG PORTIONS), creatively mixing tradittional and local ingredients, bringing up the best taste - just as if the... More
