There were lots of locals (students) and the prices were lower than in Old Town. It's loud but the atmosphere is also happy! Huge portions and a specialiy in drinks list was moonshine :D I had latvian style meatballs. Live music.

Ok so, if you are going to Riga, you Must eat here! No questions! No exceptions! What an awesome place! Old fashioned, medieval style basement. Service may not be impeccable, but the food, atmosphere, and price more than makes up for it! We ate here everyday. For real. And so did everyone else at our hostel! The food is basic,... More

Were there with family. Good atmosphere, friendly waitresses, good food. Especially compared the price of it. And lot of good latvian beers on draught. On top of that all live music. At that evening a swing band with slavian flavor. A good one.

Traveled to Latvia to visit family and took them to Folkklub. It was quite hot and in a basement, so better ventilation would be greatly appreciated, but overall a fun pub-like atmosphere with nice wait staff and bartenders. Appetizers for three, seven dinners, fourteen alcoholic drinks (including shots of Balzams) and three non-alcoholic drinks later the bill came to about... More

Food in Folkklubs is good, however the biggest thrills comes from the live music and spontanious dancing. We enjoyed good local beers, nice beer tasting platter and goat cheese gratinated chicken while listening first some Latvian folk songs and then some Irish folk music performed by two very autentic bands. Very nice evening indeed! Friday night is live folk music... More

You go downstairs to this fantastic folk club/ restaurant. It has a fabulous atmosphere, it's cosy and welcoming, and we found the staff very helpful and pleasant. It's a very popular place, and if you want to go eat and catch the entertainment, then do reserve a table, otherwise you could be disappointed. The food was lovely, and portions very... More

Tourists( like us obviously) are discovering this place I am told and with good cause! My friends and I went here several times during our recent trip to Riga? Beware, most tables are reserved even on week nights after 7 or 8. The food is great and the beer variety and princes can't be beaten. Plus we found the staff... More

This place seriously has the best honey beer I've ever tasted. I have quite a sweet tooth and their beer was perfect for me. The food is also tasty, not at all expensive and the size of the portion is jolly decent in my opinion! Loved the medieval feel of the place as well. I have nothing but good things... More

"Ala" in Latvian meens "cave". Restaurant is in authentic old basement. Very nice ant interesting, tradicional Latvian interior. Portions are huge! Very very very tasty. And prices good to. One of the cheapest places to eat in Old Riga. "Latvian meat balls" and "Dundagas royal stroganoff" was perfect cooked. And you have to try "Madonas" beer.

I went twice during a weekend trip! Great atmosphere, lots of people snd nice music. The beer selection is great, the portions are huge and staff is friendly. Service was a tad slow, but the place was packed so they're excused. I'll come back next time I visit Riga as well!
