The concept - choose a meat/bird/fish and have the entrées and sides come along to share, is great and the food was all delicious. The small dining area over the art gallery and shop is lovely. Not cheap by Latvian standards but it doesn't break the bank either.

A combination art gallery restaurant run by a local celebrity chef, portions generous, food fantastic, setting eclectic, non-matching china, set in a balcony above the store/art gallery. A great experience.

Visited Istaba after reading a recommendation on a recent visit to Riga. Aalthough it is a bit outside of the usual tourist area,it was well worth the trip to find it. There is onset menu here -- the waitress listed the daily options, all of which included some great tapas style starters, salad and sides to the two fish dishes... More

Istaba is not only a little restaurant, it also houses an exhibition area on the first floor, which you can overlook from your seating upstairs. The food is wonderful and well prepared. Could be a little more vegetarian options to choose from! But I love this place, it is well worth looking for. Can be a bit hard to find... More

A super-cool restaurant upstairs from a gallery - a great, relaxed atmosphere and the food and wine was delicious! The marzipan cake for dessert was a decadent treat that had us talking about it for days afterwards!

they didn't have a fixed menu but the not-so-friendly waitress would walk you through their daily offer. I went there twice during my stay in Riga and was very happy with what they brought to my table both times. appetiser and side dishes were included when you ordered a main course, and the portion was usually quite big, so it's... We wanted vegetarian and were not disappointed. A fine meal, creative cooking and nicely served. Excellent, unobtrusive service. A creative kitchen. We are "regulars", if anyone can be termed that in Riga - we are it. About ten times at the Istaba since 2011. My wife's birthday and it was all good, and the sauce for the marzipan dessert was... I tried going to the restaurant several times but on the days I went the menu wasn't appealing so I will go at a later date. I bought a candle in the store attached to the restaurant, and I asked the cashier what the scent was. She said she couldn't translate it because they were just ordinary flowers. The candle... More

We live Istaba although we've seen a few quirks over the the several visits. We were worried about it since reading the reviews this time, our first visit in a year. Nice service, just the right amount. Had the vegetarian meal, very flavorful and enjoyable. Same funky atmosphere, a pleasure and a pleasant surprise since we were led to believe... More

everything about this place, except the décor, is truly average.. food is not bad, but not really great either.. selection of drinks, music.. even the price is average Service is relatively bad. Waitress has this depressing "I don't give a F***" attitude. We stayed a bit late this one evening (was about 9-10PM), there were quite good few of us... More
