Great cellar under the Castle Rock

They serve good local meals but also one of the best steaks in town. You can find the Modra Hviezda restaurant (Blue Star) on the way up to the Bratislava Castle and another one is up on the hill called Hradna Hviezda (Castle Star).

Good service and convenient location close to castle. My foie gras was unevenly cooked – overcooked in some places and almost raw in others. The fish (zander) was not fresh and had a slight fishy taste. The pork chop and the root vegetables puree were very tasty however the meat had large amounts of fat that should have been trimmed... This is a traditional Slovak restaurant in a fascinating cellar, built into the side of the hill leading up to the castle. Very atmospheric, especially if you are looking for something different. The staff were extremely helpful, made great wine recommendations - so much so that we bought a bottle of the wine to take away. The food is heavily... More

This place was really quite a find. Far enough out of the old city (aka 500 meters) to be not touristy. We really enjoyed the service and the food was excellent. I recommend the filet, get it mid-rare. The only downside was that we were seated in the cellar part and I froze the whole night. Also, the bird was... More

Thank you for your comment. The price reflect the quality of ingredients we hand pick every morning so you can be sure that you get the prime meat and the very fresh vegetables. All our dishes have a base in traditional Slovak cuisine with modern twist. More

A great setting for an authentic Slovak dining experience. The wait staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Slovak cuisine is not my favorite but the experience was well worth the visit to this restaurant, which seems like your in a wine cellar. The food was authentic and fresh and the wine was really good. I would highly recommend dining at... More

Bratislava impressed me by its choice of restaurants offering local cuisine! Modra Hviezda is a bit more expensive than the Slovak pub for example. However, it is something completely different. I recommend it to everybody who enjoys delicious local food and few friendly comments by the waiters...

We enjoyed great soups, great traditional niocchi as well as excellent beef with pumpkin purée and chestnuts. Great wine, great atmosphere, great service, located near the city. For all the above we paid about 20€ per person which was great! I definitely recommend it.

We ate here on both evenings because we couldn't see anything nearly as inviting as this. It's in a little alley on the way to the castle, friendly and lovely cellar atmosphere. The food is mainly slovac, with specialities of the area. It's hearty and delicious, excellent tender meat and good tasty vegetables. Service was very good.
