We were party of 7 people /foreigners/ who were looked for a typical Hungarian csarda so we have chosen this place. Most of us ordered traditional Hungarian soup named Halaszle as a starter. Everybody were happy with it but one of us found it very disgusting at the end when the big bloody!!piece of fish meat was in the middle... More

We stop in Gyor twice a year when we drive between Scandinavia and the Balkans. When we ask for recommendations for restaurants, everyone says Matroz for good food, good value but maybe not such a fancy atmosphere. Most customers order fish soup, either as a starter or as the main meal. Since we are not fans of river fish, we... More

Small marine restaurant close to the river. Good atmosphere and local cuisine is what I appreciate the most. The recipes are hungarian, Bestseller is fish soup which was a bit too spicy for me. Small breads called "tepertős pogácsa", made probably by themselves is the best pastry I have ever tried. Portions are huge and very good prices compare to... More

We went to the restaurant twice, we took fish and it was delicious both times. The staff is also very nice and friendly and helpful when it comes to advising you what to chose. Although they speak German rather then English, we managed to understand each other. The thing we liked most there were the breads which you can see... More

Found this restaurant in Gyor, which was near to major building works, but this made no difference to the welcome. The waiter spoke little English, but was welcoming, friendly & tried hard to please. The food & service was very good & prices were very reasonable. The only downside was that they stopped serving vegetables at 20:00, for no apparent... More

If you would like to taste a perfict fish in any form then Matroz is recommended. The restaurant has a unique atmosphere where everyone can feel the history of the place. Fish soup and hand-made pasta is one of the best dishes in the city. Our advise is to go for it.

Very delicious foods, with lot of local people mixed with tourists. Try the fish soup, you will enjoy it for sure!

Old fashioned restaurant offering classical Hungarian fish meals. Halászlé (Fish Soup) and Túrós Csusza (Home-made noodles with sour cream, cottage cheese and bacon) are absolutely "must have". The Pogácsa (sort of spicy Hungarian biscuit) and home-made bread is awesome!! Red wine of the house was a cheap one though acceptable. The toilettes are unfortunatelly extremely low end. Affordable prices, they... More
