We were staying at the Boscolo, so felt we needed the full experience. Food was very elegant, but just as pricey. The selections were inconsistent (my wife thought her $20 lunch was only OK") and not very plentiful. The service was painfully slow and we all felt they thought they were doing us a favor being there. I realyze this... More

The deco transports you to the elegance of previous century. But the service and food that not match this grandeur. You can go just to know it and have a coffee or glass of wine, but no to eat.

New York Cafe was a very beautiful place to have a hot chocolate and cake - I tried the pistachio and raspberry tart which was delicious! We were seated straight away, all the staff were very polite and we were well attended by Kov'acs Istva'n during our visit. Although a little on the touristy side, the atmosphere was still just... You must come to see the beautiful architecture and decor of this place which looks like the five star Boscolo hotel it is part of, but don't expect to get five star service. The waitstaff is slow, not attentive and stand around chatting instead ofpaying attention to what the customer needs. Also coffee was not good (see picture no crema... More

New York Cafe was the first restaurant we visited on what is currently shaping up to be an awesome vacation in Budapest. I would gladly give New York Cafe more than 5 stars if I could. I've never been in a more beautiful restaurant. Bring a camera; you'll want to take pictures. The atmosphere is made even better by the... More

Visited this place just cause a lot is written about it like it is the oldest cafe in Budapest. And also my wife wanted to visit it (may be it is the first reason :)) 1 point I gave for Interior, 1 point for the history of the place and 1 point for the desserts, they were tasty. In total,... More

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighborhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
