Traditional hungarian restaurant

Traditional restaurant placed in the old part of the city (Buda) where you can eat fish and soups. Nice place, quick service, good food (bread is excellent!), quite close to Batthyani Ter metro station. A good stop on your way to Matyas' Church and Fishermen's Bastion.

Looked pleasant enough from the outside and you might initially have the impression that this could be a reasonable non-tourist place . Don't be fooled. Poor canteen-like food , rubbish dishonest service (we were told there was no tomato salad and then twenty minutes later the people at the next table we're having a tomato salad) and extortionate prices for... We went in as it was recommended in our guide book and was busy. Its nice enough inside as it has an old style family restaurant feel and the staff are friendly. We were given a table near the kitchen and when i glanced in and saw the banks of microwaves and freezers i should have left. From what i... More

we stopped here as it was in the rough guide, it's a quirky place with wacky decor, including a dinghy hanging from the ceiling. We were served some very nice carp soup with plenty if bread and the prices were reasonable. Maybe 1900 Ft each, about £6 each by my reckoning. I'd go back!

Traditional Fish-Restaurant in 1. District of Budapest. Parking is OK if you are lucky and you have the opportunity to use one of the 8-10 parking place, situated on the other side of the street. Old, a little bit dusky room at the corner with small outdoor seating, but those street has to heavy traffic to enjoy a pleasant lunch.... More

Chose this restaurant because it was near our hotel (Victoria ) and there seemed to be quite a few Hungarian dishes on the menu (far too many, as it turned out). Our starter was something cheesy; sounded rustic and interesting on the menu. Do you remember Findus Crispy Pancakes ? There they were - two Findus on a plate !... More

Restaurant located 1 block from the Art'otel. Turn right after leaving the hotel next street has 2 restaurants, don't go to the one on the Duna side go to the back. Food is excellent extensive menu with several fish dishes, traditional hungarian dishes, duck, chicken goose liver, veal, even wild boar and deer. The place doesn't look much, but You... More

Their website offered several types and styles of Hungarian fish soup (halászlé), but in fact, they are all cooked as one basic soup then enriched by different indigredients. Disappointing. Also, the quite great choice of other meals and drinks is acceptable, just simply nothing special. We expected more from the restaurant that is proud of its history (founded in 1955).

We had lunch here not long after arriving. Food was nice, especially the gulash soup. Service was ok, quite quick but a seemed a little hurried. They don't (or least when were there) accept credit cards.

I've read reviews of terrible service, but we had excellent service here. We split the fish soup and the trout - both of which were quite good. I have not had fish soup in other hungarian restaurants so I can't compare. The trout was great - very meaty and moist.
