Nicely spicy, and not pricy

The wood-furnished dining room is dominated by a riverfishing mural, and there is a rowing boat with fishing paraphernalia fixed to the ceiling. This sets the scene for eating river fish – bream, catfish, carp or perch – freshwater fish being the speciality of this restaurant. The classic dish... read more

We were wandering around the area and went there and have lunch. We ordered 3 dishes: paprika chicken, pork cutlet and fried fish fillet. We waited for fifteen minutes for dishes to arrive. However, the dishes are cold and we see the chef microwaved the food and serves customers. It was a very terrible experience for us.

Apparently the perch soup was good, our friends eat that, my husband had boar stew, not sure it was boar but tasty, I had pork schnitzel, topped with salty bacon and cheese, not quite what I ordered, but looked ok. It was..fine. Waiter/ owner very grumpy when I asked for Belgian Floris Kriek. Everywhere else sold it but they only... More

Our cousin, a local brought us here for lunch to try the fish soup. Four of us had the fish (catfish) soup, my son had the deer ragout 'Tokaj' style erverything was excellent. Took a taste of the ragout; with the furit and wine, it was very interesting

I had a dinner there, the soup and main courses (salmon + french fries) have been served in less than 10 minutes, you can hear from the kitchen the microwave beeping every 2 minutes. The salmon was not cooked at all, it was fried on top, inside it was raw. Service was okay.

I never cease to be amazed at the range of ratings a restaurant receives....maybe we were lucky. This place was pretty good. It is no frills, a basic Hungarian restaurant: the food was better than some others we tried in the area, and the wine was certainly much better. I had a very good goulash soup, and the Boss had... Looked pleasant enough from the outside and you might initially have the impression that this could be a reasonable non-tourist place . Don't be fooled. Poor canteen-like food , rubbish dishonest service (we were told there was no tomato salad and then twenty minutes later the people at the next table we're having a tomato salad) and extortionate prices for... We went in as it was recommended in our guide book and was busy. Its nice enough inside as it has an old style family restaurant feel and the staff are friendly. We were given a table near the kitchen and when i glanced in and saw the banks of microwaves and freezers i should have left. From what i... More

Traditional restaurant placed in the old part of the city (Buda) where you can eat fish and soups. Nice place, quick service, good food (bread is excellent!), quite close to Batthyani Ter metro station. A good stop on your way to Matyas' Church and Fishermen's Bastion.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
