Good food, beautiful decor, appalling service

The waiter did not acknowledge us on arrival despite the fact the restaurant was quiet at the time. He was rude and inattentive throughout our meal. When it came to paying the bill he tried to short change us and reacted with great hostily when we pointed this out to him. We left feeling angry and... read more

We visited the coffee house early afternoon few days ago. It is in a good location, few minutes away from the river Danube and the Gellert Hotel, surrounded by beautiful buildings. The service was quick and polite, we had only coffees (very tasty and strong), refreshments and beautiful cakes, which was creamy chestnut with whipped cream, called 'gesztenyepure'. Really worth... Successor of a famous cafe of the early 20th century. The present: a short breakfast menu, but the food and drink are delicious. The service is very slow, the order was taken after more than 10 minutes and a ham & eggs and an omelett arrived after more than 20 minutes however the place was almost empty. Also the staff... Overpriced, service is non existent. Went there for breakfast, could not get anything out of the waiter. Very poor menu. No toast. No croissants. Just omelettes. Nothing can be changed or added. We walked across the street and ate in a local deli. When we came back and asked for a cup of espresso, they made us wait for a... More

Not too long but very tasty menu, wide range of cool drinks for hot weather, fast and polite service, no problem with English (especially important in Hungary :)). At the same time prices are more than reasonable.

Spotted this coffee house in Buda en route from the Gellert hotel. A lovely place to relax and soak up the atmosphere of pre war years in Budapest. It may need a few extra touches here and there but a wonderful place to people watch and unwind for a while

This coffeehouse is nowhere near as glamorous as it used to be in its heyday, but it is easily one of the best in Budapest. It is quintessentially Hungarian, it lives and breathes milieu of the intellectual exchanges of pre-war times and the atmosphere is unparalleled. It does not suffer from the commercialisation of the Central Coffeehouse and the New... More

Famous during the interwar years for its literary circles, Hadik has been restored, if not to its original glory, but at least a pleasant, old-fashioned café serving excellent food. The interior has a warm, friendly ambience, while sitting outside in the warmer months offers a great place for people-watching and relaxation - something in short supply in Budapest. The menu... Located a bit off the tourist path, but not much is Hadik. It is located on Gardonyi Square (ter) along Bela Bartok Blvd a few blocks from the Gellert. It dates to 1910 and has a charming interior along with outdoor seating in the picturesque Gardonyi Sq. I loved the interior, traditional and some really nice stuffed chairs to sit... More
