Proper workers' cafe - not for all tastes, but we loved the experience

It's not easy to find ...at the church end of Fortuna Utca is a 'proper' sit-down restaurant, but if you walk under the arch, past their door into an unsigned door and go up to the first floor, you will find a very large self service cafeteria - definitely for locals! Grab a tray and go to the... read more

The passage just off Fortuna Utca has 3 places to eat and drink and I think that some reviewers have mixed them up. The workers cafe which is on the left going up the stairs is Excellent as Lesley P has said. I cannot comment on the restaurant which is first on the left as we didn't visit. However we... More

We sheltered from the rain storm as we were doing a scooter your of the city (highly recommend that!). The waiter snapped his fingers at us when he wanted us to move table, didn't give all if us a menu (there were only 3 of us) and at the end barked the price at me, not presenting the bill. And... We wore on our scooter tour around Budapest. It was about to rain so we went to nearest restaurant to eat something. At the start waiter asked in grumpy voice “how many”. I didn’t get offended with that because it already happened to me, with servers who don’t speak very good English. This don indicate that service will be bad.... More

We had dinner here as it was right across the street from the Hilton Budapest. There were few people on the street that Saturday night – and even fewer in the restaurant. I remembered that Europeans eat dinner late and I thought we were just getting there before the crowds. I guess things are ‘not so European’ in Budapest since... More

This restaurant has a fabulous service. The waiters there were like royal butlers - very professional.

We had a quick lunch when visiting the castle district. We ordered a menu for something around 2700 HUF and received an average potato soup, average chicken breast with rice and an average dessert. Included was a coffee, which was nice. Overall nothing I would remember for a long time, but for a simple lunch, why not.

Contemporary atmosphere. Excellent hungarian dishes. Moderate prices. We had the goulash and it was great. Fish stew was so-so. Wine list was very good.

Arrived late in the evening and were told that the only food available was cheese and ham toasties. Whilst these were palatable, they were very expensive. With small lager double the cost of a large lager everywhere else in Budapest, the price of 2 toasties, 4 beers and 2 glasses of wine was over £30!
