A very nice meal

Dinner at the Universal was very nice and would recommend if you have tired of the standard Czech dishes. Good French wine available by the 1/2 litre carafe. We had pork with rosemary and baked tomatoes and duck with cranberries. Well priced food and the service was good.

We have been to this fantastic French restaurant several times and we will be back again. If you like dishes like Coq au vin, Foie gras, Moules mariniére, steak Rossini or duck breast, you have to come here. For adequate money and with great service - what more do you want?

This restaurant is hidden away in the back streets of Prague 1 and we came across it by chance. My wife has a theory that if a premises windows are clean outside it is clean inside, and so it proved to be the case with the Universal. The interior décor was bright, modern and very clean, similar to an upmarket... More

This was our third and final night in Prague, and it just so happened to be Valentine's Day! Fancy that! Anyway, having eaten at one Czech restaurant and one Thai restaurant, we thought we'd try Universal for a 'romantic dinner'. Having had a beer at the Bar 23 just around the corner, which was great value at £1.20 a pint,... More

A perfect place for special occasions, to enjoy amazing food and wine for a reasonable price. We have tried a variety of starters, soups, main dishes and even a bigger variety of desserts offered, and were highly satisfied with all of it. It is probably not a place for an everyday dinner with a student's budget, but i can highly... More

Four of us had dinner here recently. The decor is basic, somewhere between french bistro and pizzeria. We had many different dishes. The highlight was the french onion soup (2 eur), the salmon tartar and the goose liver (even though the portion was minute). The duck breast we had was very chewy. The tuna was ok. The italian salad was... More

Went here based on some outstanding TripAdvisor reviews and can't help but feel let down. The place itself is a very nice and casual affair. The service was awful. The waitresses spent more time speaking to their friends than actually doing any work. I had the soup and Grilled "Rack" of Lamb. My partner had the Duck starter and Salad.... More

We met a friend in Prague who recommended this restaurant: we were not disappointed! Good food, good service, good value. Very low-key atmosphere, casual type of restaurant. Lots of choices on the menu. I had the chicken roll with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes...very tasty! Salads are good sized, tasty & fresh! It was our first meal in Prague and it... More

Our only disappointment was that it took us three weeks before we discovered this hidden gem. Three of us visited the restaurant on May 28th and we all had superb dinners. Service was a tad slow, ambiance was better, but the food was simply marvelous. If the traveler has limited choices for dining....put this restaurant at the top of the... More

Quite small restaurant with modest interior, quite low prices and good quality of food. Tuna steak was very good, starter Caprese-salad was tasty and big. House wine was cheap and good. Excellent food when compared with the prices they have!

Staying in Nove Mesto (New Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.
