I think it's the only pub I know, where you can still smoke. Very particular and not very clean but the beer is cheap as in almost all the taverns of Prague and the food is good and cheap. The tables are shared with other people. The cook smoking while cooking and they didn't have bottle of water ..... But...I... More

A great locals only place so you'll need to speak at least rudimentary Czech but beer is super cheap and good and sausage and breads were great. AVOID the Cheese it is stinky! The service was typical Czech communist era meaning not as attentive as Americans are used to, but still OK

Just off the main road, this lovely little bar is firstly air conditioned well! As it was 37c this was very welcome. The 2 barmen were chatting to the locals which created a great atmosphere! We had a intened a quick beer which turned into 4! Very reasonable pricing, great service, and good banter with the barmen. Their English wasn't... More

On one of the old winding narrow cobbled streets beneath Prague castle is one of the best and most atmospheric pubs you will go when you are in Prague.Pivnice u Hrocha (The Hippopotamus) is a classic old style Czech pub very smokey with the surly service that you get in old style Prague pubs makes this place a must go... Every trip to Prague we've been on over the many year's of visiting this wonderful city ,we alway's pay this pub a visit as it is still one of the best most traditional unspoilt pub's in the city. On our last visit we were here on a Saturday night and this pub was as it alway's is very very busy.... More

This is a must when climbing up the castle hill. The beer is always at its best and the service is stiff but fast. A reminiscent of the good old days of Praque.

If you dare to go in through the unmarked door , you will find yourself in a noisy, smoky, and gererally wonderful 'real' Prague pub. Great beer , good simple food, and enough character to make you glad you dared!

Another great Pilsner Urquelle pub is U Hrocha, small and cosy beer pub on Mala Strana (under the Prague Castle) and close to Charles Bridge, so you can easily make a little stop on your walk there. The pub opens at 12:00 until approx. 15:00 is no problem to get a place, after it’s a bit tricky, but not almost... More

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighborhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
