Alchemical age in Prague At the end of the 16th century Prague became the center of occultism. The eccentric Emperor Rudolph II brought in the spirit of the late Renaissance through his passion for mysterious arts and science. Many alchemists from across Europe came to Prague to enjoy the generous patronage of the Imperial court. The obsessed Rudolph II employed more than 200 alchemists and charlatans in the hope of discovering the secret formula for converting base metals into gold. Despite no apparent results up to now, the challenging research still goes on, mostly in our Alchymist Bar....

Excellent food

Great food and service plush surroundings but very friendly service not at all pretentious. The setting of the hotel and outer areas are exquisite. Good choice of food and drink.

This restaurant is a wonderful find. Looking through the doors it looks plush, ornate with gold features so looked pricey. However it was the best value meal we had in Prague. It was a beautiful day and we could sit outside on tables with parasols and cushioned seats, soft music playing. It was relatively empty so more or less had... More

Given the beautiful setting, outside in the gardens, and the name of the place itself, we were expecting big things, and hoped to have stumbled over something special. Not so - service was slow and unfriendly, and you got the impression that a spirit & mixer was asking too much. We didn't have any food since we had a restaurant... More

Visited the restaurant on 03.08.13 and it was amazing!! The food was great (ravioli, tuna steak, creme brulee and choc fondant), the staff/service excellent and the atmosphere perfect for a special occasion After reading other reviews and seeing the photos I decided that I would propse to my g/f at the restaurant so I noted this when making the online... Everything was wonderful; the relaxed and cosy atmosphere in the garden, the friendly waiters, the delicious food and the drinks. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Lovely to sit outside in a walled garden, it feels intimate and quiet. Mix of couples and young families, so no rowdy adolescents looking for pub grub. The food was delicious, we had a fragrant tahine of lamb and suckulent duck on sweet carrot mash. Oh, and try the roasted veggies, they are good.

In the summer the restaurant is in a beautiful garden. We had deliciously grilled chicken and grilled pork neck. The grill out on the patio near you. Had a Moravian merlot, label CH. Dowina 2008 which was wonderfully complex, topped off with a chocolate dessert cake with melted chocalted in the middle (not quite a mouse). Wonderfully polite and attentive... More

We saw a positive review in Fodors and decided to try it before we we left Prague. We walked there from our hotel and had to circle the area awhile before we located the entrance. We didn't have reservations and were surprised we had no trouble getting a table at 8:30 on a Friday night. In fact, there were only... More

I had dinner in the lovely and quiet garden. Everything was perfect from beginning to end! The waiters were very friendly and took good care of me throughout the meal. I started with a trio of cold soups which was very original (the one with corn was especially delicate and refined). Then I had the duck magret which was perfectly... More

Staying in Mala Strana (Little Quarter)

Neighborhood Profile
Mala Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.
