Busy and cosy!

A nice restaurant close to the central square of Plzen. It actually has a separate non smoking area, which isn't seen in all places! Local people come here for just a drink and/or to have dinner. Plenty of choices from the menu, both traditional and more general type of dishes and of good quality... read more

U Salzmannu is the oldest pub in Pilsen and is closely connected to the history of unique beer - the Pilsner Urquell. You can find it very close to the main square. On menu you can find typical czech cuisine and it is quite a good spot for lunch or dinner with your friends. They also have perfect Pilsner Urquell... More

We arrived in the afternoon, and quickly were met by our waitress who asked if we wanted to sit in the smoking or non-smoking section. Not every Czech pub have that option actually. We decided to test the salt pretzels first, before ordering food. They were a lot bigger than what I'm used to, and the amount of salt on... More

We visited to see the old tavern and used the free beer token from our earlier tour of the brewing museum. Being in between a huge breakfast and a booking for a huge dinner, we did not eat. The staff, the beer and the rooms were all fine so it would make a good pub in any town in England.

Most recent memories from this restaurant include waiters miscounting change in the restaurant's favor, very watered-down hot chocolate which was promptly returned, and other waiters pretending not to have heard your order and repeating back to you, quickly and not very loudly, doubled amounts, expecting you to confirm... which you need to correct immediately, if in fact you actually hear... The oldest bar / restaurant in Plzen. Fantastic choice of beer and very friendly staff. Typical Czech interior, all wooden. Very clean toilets.

We had lunch with my friends from different part of Czech. They insisted on the lunch at this restorant despite of my warning. The gulasch was absolutly horrible. The ffurther meal were the same. Interior is nice the cuisine horrible. The other restorants of the Brewery are ok. However the Chef of this kitchen should be kick out.

Salzmann has a truly long tradition based on quality beer and traditional Czech food. The service is one of the best in the city. Do not make the mistake of trying what you already know and being "safe", try as much as your stomach can handle. Smoking area is to the right, further non-smoking is to the left and rear... More

The food was quite good, liked the beer, but the staff was not so polite. Did not expected that because had some good reviews from friends.

We gave this restaurant a poor rating, not because of the food but because of the service. Maybe we were just unlucky having read some of the other reviews. The food and price was good but the service very unfriendly. We were made to feel very unwelcome. Not sure I would go back there again.
