Have only had a quick lunch here - burger with chips plus a pint of (v good) Tonbridge bitter. Would agree with other comments that food is on the pricey side (my bill was just under £18 with no starter, dessert or coffee) but the burger was obviously home made and of good quality and the chips were superb. Good... More

I had found this charming old country pub when looking for a lunchtime snack, and enjoyed it so much that I booked my wife and I in for dinner a week later, travelling 40 miles there to do so, so that says something. A minor peculiarity, why did we have to choose either 7.15pm or 7.45pm to dine but not... More

Another lazy sunny Sunday in Matfield and James, Charlie and their team put on Matfields first Gin Festival featuring 47 world class gins. The event was spread over the bar, garden and the horse-box and also available to accompany this delight to the taste buds was some excellent food in the form of tapas style bowls of lovelessness. To add... More

Ate here last night. Had been looking forward to it for a while and so had the wife. We sat in the 'restaurant' part of this pub. Service was sketchy and had to get up to look at chalk board for the menu in the main bar. I know this makes it an authentic experience but i don't see why... More

We ate here as I'd driven by a few days before and liked the look of it! We were very impressed with the food, along with the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Such a shame we are missing the gin festival this weekend! We will certainly be back as its a lovely place. As for previous comments re food being... More

We called into the Poet on our way home from a shopping trip for Sunday lunch. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to find us a table as we had not booked. There were 3 of us two of whom had the Sunday roast, one having pork and one beef. The meat on... More

As the title says we ate here on Saturday night after booking at the last minute and were very glad we gave it a try . All the staff seemed to have a great attitude and were very professional seemed a good little team . All the food we saw served looked immaculately presented and our meals were faultless ,... More

Food was excellent, cannot fault it. Very pricey, starter was £8.90 for the terrine which was a slice cut in half and you only received the half. The dessert was £7.50 for a small slice of cheesecake. The only other gripe is not having menus and you have to walk to the chalk boards which was awkward as you have... More

Great selection of gins to get the evening going and a pleasant outside seating area. Good service and nice food, although limited choices so if you are a fussy eater, you could find the choice to be very limited. Altogether a pleasant place to spend an evening with a loved one

Hubbie thoroughly enjoyed his roast lunch. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the dessert! Overpriced at £7.50 for a two inch square of lemon tart!! The rice pudding, same price, was served in a large dish with small well at the bottom with about 5 spoonfuls ! Very very overpriced. To top it all they added 10% service charge... More
