Well-sourced ingredients is where any good food journey begins, so Charlie spencer, head chef and owner of The Poet, ensures we make the most of what the county of Kent and surrounding areas hasto offer. We are very fortunate to have such great quality British produce available to us and it is a pleasure to cook with it. Charlie works with bothmodern and classical methods of cooking, mostly taking influence from British and French cuisine, and to a lesser extent Italian and Spanish.Ultimately Charlie has a drive and passion for food that he wants to share. The Poet at Matfield pub and restaurant, which is situated in the heart of Kent near Tunbridge Wells, offersa warm and comfortable atmosphere to come and experience those efforts.

Great Find.

Visited for Dinner midweek. What a find ! Lovely location, great atmosphere and wonderful food. However, it is expensive but that will not stop you going back again. If you don't come here you will never know what you have missed. I rest my case

On entering the Poet we were greeted by the most accommodating bar man who was absolutely fantastic and looked after our every need. The drinks were top notch. When we sat for dinner, I ordered the crispy egg with broad bean and pea, my wife ordered the goats cheese tart. Unfortunately the poached egg was over cooked but this was... More

Where better to go for a birthday meal than the Poet at Matfield? Thanks to Fred the chef for great food - beef cooked perfectly medium rare as I'd asked, and my husband enjoyed his favourite fish and chips and then I had delicious chocolate fondant with cherries and cherry kirsch sorbet. And thanks to Andy, Conrad and Mary for... More

I've driven past The Poet dozens of times so finally took the plunge with my partner to see what it's like. We had a very warm welcome from the attentive staff, nice and relaxed and the team on the day couldn't do enough for us. I ordered the roast beef from a nice looking menu, my partner ordered the pulled... More

I have heard so much about the Poet. I guess the real attraction is the restaurant. We came for lunch on a sunny day. It was ok, but not spectacular. Salmon well cooked, garden vegetables well cooked, burger was juicy and chips nice and thick. Wine selection is not great, but there are a couple of decent ones. They said... More

Eaten here many times & have never been disappointed. The bar & restaurant are lovely beamed rooms. There is real ale & a good number of choices on the menu. Try the pork, it melts in your mouth.

Visited friends who have just moved to the area. This local bar/resturant has first class service and food to match. One of the best I have had in a long time. Hidden jem. New manager sets the best standard which his team follows. You won't be disappointed

It is because of pubs like this that I like England. The atmosphere was great and I was impressed and pleased to see they have a Gin menuboard and a Gin of the month. I obviously went for one of these which was served in the appropriate glass with a quality Tonic water. The food menu was also very satisfying.... More

After a day at Ightham mote we thought we would stop off at this beautiful looking pub on our way home. We were not disapointed with the outlook and inside was just as delightful. We chose to sit out it the beer garden as with two young children we thought it would be best. The staff member was attentive and... More

Dear jake2413 Thank you for your review. I am very disappointed to read, that you've left our establishment feeling frustrated. However I do find your review a little unfair. On the day of your visit we have had several other dishes than Beef Fillet, that are Gluten free and as most of our dishes are made to order we could... More
