Needing to eat locally in Matfield on a Monday evening we booked in at The Poet which was just down the lane from where we were staying. We were the only ones in the restaurant together with two guys in the bar so the atmosphere was subdued. The mains and wines were very pricey so we settled for bangers and... More

Only a short drive from where we stayed, this pub offers fantastic food at reasonable prices. We actually spent all our evenings at this hotel because the food was terrific.

we ate here in July with friends. Good atmosphere on a Saturday night. Menu a little limited especially as two of the dishes we had chosen were off even though it was only eight thirty. However food we got was of a good standard. Service was professional and attentive. I will definitely return. But... please could we have a printed... More

My family and I visited 'The Poet' for a Sunday family lunch and left very disappointed. We ordered the following: 2x roast beef 1x salmon fish cakes 1x half a shandy Pros The quality of the beef was decent with minimal fat and cooked nicely Cons Smelly fish cakes as the fish was not fresh Small portions, I left hungry... Food was tasty, filling & well presented - not overly pricey for what we had at all (plus a 25% off early bird discount). Staff were friendly and welcoming & atmosphere was great! Lovely evening spent with a friend.

I came yesterday (30th June) with a friend & we had a lovely evening. We were welcomed by a nice lady (in a black dress) who was polite & friendly. We had a gorgeus meal in a lovely area of the pub & felt warm, cosy & content after a tasty meal. Thank you :)

I am a fairly regular visitor to the poet and it has never disappointed me. Great beer on tap, food is of the highest quality and the atmosphere is everything you want in a local pub/restaurant. The guys who own the poet have really made a great job of this pub and have made it a great local hot spot... More

We live very close to The Poet but hadn't eaten here before, we took the opportunity of a childless evening to try out the menu. The service and welcome were extremely friendly and we were very impressed with the cosy but uncluttered restaurant environment. Although reasonably busy the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful. Our service was courteous and attentive. My... More
