Wonderfully cooked, tasty food with perfect combinations of flavours. One of the best places I've eaten for a while. Lovely atmosphere would love to return and would certainly recommend. The wine list is slightly pricey however.

I booked the poet for a charity wine tasting event. James could not have been more accommodating as well as generous. The food(for 20) was brilliant and the service even better. And, we raised £5000 for a very worthy cause www.alchemyct.org

On our first visit to this friendly village restaurtant / pub we came away completely bowled over by the very high standard of food, service and the whole experience. Our second visit this week did not disappoint us, the menu had changed to accommodate the available fresh, locally sourced produce and the Bath Tub gin was a delight!

We have eaten at this restaurant for two special celebrations of our sixtieth and my wife has eaten on numerous occasions with an ex-colleague. The service and staff have always been stunning, friendly, efficient and accommodating. The food on every time there has been outstanding. It is beautifully presented, excellently cooked and of the highest quality and, where possible, locally... More

I really like this place! And it just seems to get better and better. Matfield is a really attractive little Kent village and The Poet - really a restaurant rather than a pub - oozes character. I prefer the front bar as it is a brighter and more welcoming than the back but you will eat well in either. The... More

After a recent recce visit my wife and I booked a table and took a couple of friends to dinner last Saturday 5th April. The 'a la carte' menus offered an interesting selection but there were 'blackboard' listed items as well. I had smoked haddock risotto starter, my wife and one friend had 'crispy poached egg with chorizo and petite... More

Lovely setting in Matfield in the Kent England. Set against blue skies the Kent Peg Tiles look wonderful. Very warm reception upon entering, friendly staff, two owners Charles & James are very hands on and quick to get you sorted. There is a black board menu full of specials as well as an al a carte menu. My cousin lives... More

We were seated in this beautiful room with great decor all around, when we finally looked at the menu you... More

Three of us ate here on a weekday evening, and contrary to an earlier reviewer, we found our meals to be of ample portions (none of us could finish our chips) and the price to be excellent value for money. What a shame that earlier reviewer didn't share what he and his companion ate and why they felt it was... More

Visited the poet at Matfield yesterday as moving to the area. This was truly a great plus to have such a great pub in walking distance. My friends loved the Gin choice and knowladge, didnt eat on this visit but will do very soon as the food that was being served looked amazing and checking out the menu & blackboard... More
