Splendid, tasty dumplings and attentive, pleasant staff.

We have been staying for a month in the Cullen hotel in whose building this fine Chinese restaurant sits as a commercial ground floor "shop" and therefore we have passed by its windows often and it always seems busy. We have also noticed on this trip that dumplings seem to be the new vogue in... read more

We heard they had the best dumplings in Melbourne so we had to give it a try as we were staying in The Cullen. Our friends met us here for dinner, we chose all the dumplings an the Peking duck. The meals came out on time & they were to die for would recommend this place to friends & others.... More

Char Sui Bao were dry, shui mai were ok. Peking duck was below par, and the sweet and sour barramundi was dull. I might have caught these guys on an off day as all my friends advised to go, however wasnt good enough for me to recommend or go back

We chose the set $40 a head dumpling menu.Watching the chefs dumpling making is fun. Service was perhaps the best I have had for some time. We took pots of tea @ $5 and they were refilled. There was a good tea choice. I do not recall all the servings but I found them and the dipping sauces to be... More

Though a little pricey, the food and service here is excellent. Great for when you just got to have xiao long bao.

This restaurant is quite possibly one of th best chinese i have been too. The food is absolutely delicious with the chilli wontons always being a favourite. Extreme caution however - do not confuse the Prahran site with the market lane which serves up absolute rubbish. Hutong in Prahran is a totally different restaurant with great flavours and fresh ingredients.... More

The honey chicken and the fried rice were splendid. We ventured to this establishment following a rave review in Gourmet Traveller. My friend was eager to try the dumplings however, I am sad to say they did not resemble the glory of the restaurant review. The honey chicken and fried rice (boring, we know) were traditional and excellent.

We loved the literal throng of diners, the efficiency of the staff and the wonderful, authentic food.

Lets start with ... we had a booking and we were ignored whilst waiting to be seated. Then a grumpy faced waiter known as Jaxbaby sat us down at our table and asked where is the rest of the party with his arrogant tone. Then when I ordered a specific dish and asked for a specific detail, he got it... More

I frequent Hutong as it's usually, clean, fresh food with great customer service. Sometimes I note that Yum Cha days are a bit slower than normal dining days. Dumplings are one of the best in Melbourne. My partner (Chinese authentic) who is picky on Chinese restaurants likes this one, she always wants to go back! So fast friendly service and... More
