Description: Pernel Kitchen is set amidst a working orchard where high quality produce...
Pernel Kitchen is set amidst a working orchard where high quality produce is lovingly grown. The Chef seeks inspiration from his surroundings and produces affordable, unfussy, beautifully presented cafe style food truly bursting with flavour. Our own produce as well as those of other local growers is showcased in his dishes. Pernel Kitchen has indoor and outdoor seating (with shade in summer) as well as a small children's playground including beanbags and teepees. Menus change regularly to reflect seasonal produce. Private functions and out-catering are also welcome. Our experienced staff are able to work closely with you to exceed your expectations. Tours of our orchard are available (bookings required) which give a fun and informative trip aboard our apple wagon towed by a vintage Fergie tractor. The curiosity of all ages will be ignited when you follow the journey from seed to store. Fruit ice creams, fresh fruit and vegetables, local artisan products are all available at our Fresh Produce Shop on site. Souviners and Gifts are available in our Gift Shop.

Food okay but wait is too long

This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere so I would say it is a ‘destination’ place. The cabinet food looked pretty good and there was good variety on the menu but T was tempted by the platter for two so it was ordered and paid for. Hot drinks came out quick enough then we waited and... read more

Pernel Kitchen has gone down hill ever since all the hardworking staff have left. Mother's Day food was appalling, a lot of my friends were very disappointed with everything. Toast was stale, breakfast was cold, coffee's are disgusting... I suggest the current staff members and management have a serious talk/meeting about what needs improving.

Had the grazing board for two for lunch which was more than enough for two people. Great variety of food. Then had coffees and brownie which was divine. Sat outside in sun and was a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere with rustic tables and chairs. Staff friendly and service wonderful. Highly recommend!

We had lunch at Pernel Kitchen today and chose the PK Grazing Broad for Two - it was interesting and plentiful - in fact we couldn't eat everything on it. Great value at $36. A nice touch is having the board presented in an old fruit tray - in keeping with the orchard setting. There was also no problem having... More

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. We arrived for lunch at 2.30pm. Not too late we didn't think. However we were told we could only have food from the cabinet at this time of day. Not sure what time of day it should be to have food from the menu especially when the advertised hours are until... More

Our menu food is available until 2.30pm when our kitchen closes. ( This is not unusual for a cafe). However we have a fabulous cabinet of savoury delights including delicious tarts, pate, bacon and egg pie all of which can be served with one of our salads. Our sweets vary daily but usually include cakes, slices, muffins and scones. (You... More

Had a grab one voucher during the school holidays so decided to take the kids here... All three children enjoyed their meals however it was a long wait for 3 young children when it wasn't very busy. Also on grab one it said this was a great place to bring kids as you can go through a petting zoo of... More

We have been here several times with our grab one vouchers and have found the service adequate as they were quite busy. The food portions are generous. Lovely setting.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. It is pleasing to know that you have visited us on several occasions. Our garden courtyard has had a 'spruce up' in time for Spring and our new Chef is producing some fantastic food so we are thrilled that you enjoyed your lunches and look forward to seeing you again soon. Come on guys, you can do a lot better - I know we only had a grabone but - sausages with a bit of potato and gravy, with tough skins and sausages that looked as if they had been boiled it was not very appetising. My partner's pork and apple pie was dry and tasteless. With such beautiful surroundings and... More

I recently went to the Hawkes Bay to visit family and we tried out a bunch of different places. This one was the very bottom of my list. Very limited menu and the staff were absolutely terrible. The food in the cabinet looked unappetising and was far too expensive. I waited over 40 minutes for a toasted sandwich and pasta... More
