We had a family lunch, tasty food with great service. Could be the best restaurant in Russell bar that it does not have a sea view. Very underrated. Well stocked bar and Thai beers. Good place to drop in for a drink.

TukTuk is the best restaurant in Russell, New Zealand. Seriously. I am a tourist from Canada and twice now I asked both Charlie (who suggested green Thai shrimp which was amazing), then because again I needed healthy Thai food for lunch, so I asked Charlie’s...wife Red who is the chef what I should have and again I fancied seafood of some kind and Red brought me out the most delicious ginger shrimp and beautiful vegetables with lovely rice. I wanted a cup of tea and she bought me the most B delicious cup of organic NZ tea! It was the most delicious and healthy lunch I have had in a long time. Thank you Charlie and Red. ♥️♥️♥️ Lovely people.More
Charlie and the staff were excellent hosts. Very friendly and welcoming. The food was good, we had the classic tom yum soup, and pad thai. Both delicious. Good value for the price.
The place is very simple in decor. But the tables are well spaced and comfortable. The food was way above average…. I’ve eaten at Thai restaurants worldwide. Something for the chef to be proud of. I agree with many other reviews regarding the service. The...man who runs the front of the house has a crusty personality and seems to genuinely dislike his job and his customers. If it weren’t for his wife’s?(not sure) great cooking, I’m sure this place would have died long agoMore
Authentic Thai food that was extremely delicious. Don’t be put off by the simple surroundings, this place is worth visit. Our compliments to the very hard working chef, we would definitely visit again.
A family run Thai restaurant. Quaint decor, good service and tasty food at reasonable prices. It’s hard to find anything not to like about this unpretentious establishment. Good wine list and a helpful host.
Four of us had a "bon voyage" luncheon at Tuktuk. Two wanted only dessert and adult coffee. One wanted an entre. And I wanted a full meal. The proprietor, Charlie, was upbeat, pleasant and attentive. Everyone was happy with their selections and I know we...will be back again. Highly recommend Tuktuk!More
Walked in and was greeted by a grump old man giving us the Stalag death stare. Have never experienced anything like it, the place looked nice but the greeting was so cold and strange that we checked for reviews and found this rap sheet. Holy...hell - dude have you heard of Google or read your reviews? Turns out this place has a shocking reputation around town which is a real shame for a quaint little place like Russell. I am astounded that customer service like this still exists in this day and age of Google reviews/Tripadvisor. Your's cost you another $150 - we took ours to the Thai/Indian place down the road which was just great. Will never be in this place again!More
I wish I’d read these reviews before going here. Incredibly rude man who ignored us completely, I think because we were wearing masks and no one else was. The woman who took our order was nice enough but stepped in as he clearly wasn’t going...to talk to us. The food was very average, clumps of rice and lots of cauliflower In the fried rice and the cashew beef was gelatinous. Don’t go here, this place sucks.More
We never got to eat here as the man taking the bookings was very rude with a very unfriendly attitude. So we decided not to give the place our patronage.
Food was too spicy and we weren't given the option of how spicy we would like it and most definitely ain't the authentic flavors of Thailand for the salads at all. The customer service was below average and we saw two lots of customers both...darker complexion just walk away while I was waiting for my meal due to the owners tone and approach. A local person was able to bring his dog in his shop and the owner didn't check their passes and pretty much stood in front of the doorway when my sister(white) and I(tanned complexion) went to enter and was made to feel our only option was to sit outside. They had limited stock avaliable for dessert menu. Saying they only had apple pie when it had about 5 other options on the menu. The water he gave tasted like cold tap water and unfiltered. Would I come here again-most definitely not and will be informing friends not to go here too. We only remained due to traveling a long distance and needing to rest, eat and hydrate.More
Great ambiance, fast service and superb food served sizzling hot. Reasonable prices. Friendly and helpful.
Not sure why we stayed. From entering we were greeted that it would take a while to be served ! Then was rudely told to go sit over there , in the corner. Couldn’t order entrees to be served along side a main dish !...The pork money bags were cold inside ! Should have walked out even before we ordered. Definitely would not return . Extremely rude and quite honest not worth the unusual experience!!! Definitely choose another place to eatMore
I missed out on a lovely meal here from the competent and clever Thai chef as we couldn't believe the rude and offhand attitude of front of house Charlie, once again. As vegans, we needed to confirm that there were no hidden fishy ingredients in...the sauces and this was all too much trouble. We asked politely and respectfully, but the response from the owner was surly. His wife is delightful! Such rudeness to an 87 year old local gentleman is not becoming of a restaurateur. We felt we were nothing but a nuisance, and quietly left the virtually empty restaurant. (There was one couple inside and a couple drinking outside). I'm disappointed we didn't get to eat there as the chef (wife) is a fabulous cook and her meals are lovely, but it takes the shine off a night out in Russell when this attitude towards guests prevails. I know we're not the only ones to have encountered this and I write this reluctantly, but in the hope that Charlie will try to be hospitable in such a special, historical village.More
Dont even give that disgusting old man behind the bar a cent of your money. I have never seen such shocking service at a restaurant in my life. When writing my review i have seen multiple other with the same comments and they are dead...right. Wish I had looked before going. The owner refused to give me my meal choice because “it took 20 minutes to make that”. Why even bother having it on the menu then? It was 5pm and the restaurant was not very busy.More
