We have never had a bad meal here, the Goveners Burger is a great choice if you're hungry with possibly the best chips in the world!

My family and I had dinner here last week. The hotel and restaurant are in a beautiful setting on the harbour shore. The staff and service were excellent - impeccable. My tempera oyster entree was delicious - crispy, fresh and juicy. The bouillabaisse main was bland and disappointing - the fish, hapuka and tarakihi, were cut way too small and... More

After a full day of business I stopped in for a glass of wine and to warm in front of the fire - perfect.

This place has a fabulous outlook and a very pleasant atmosphere. The food is quite good and the menu has an adequate selection. The open fire next to the chesterfield lounge is rather inviting on a cold day. Recommend for atmosphere more than food.

I loved this experience! The folksy esplanade backdrops this old world charm hotel & separates it from the beach at Russell. The atmosphere is classy yet relaxed & echoes the family holidays of yesteryear. We had the oysters which were fresh & appetizing. A casual inspection of the dining experience of others looked amazing? We overheard many complimentary comments from... More

Steps from the ferry landing we had an amazing lunch on a rainy day. The popcorn was our favorite. And watching the "tourists" walk. What a beautiful little island, and this restaurant just adds to the character. We would have loved to stay in the hotel. Next time . . .

We selected to dine here for my wife’s birthday after reading TripAdvisor reviews. Upon arrival, the staff were very helpful as they were almost fully booked (a Friday night) and sorted out a table for us within minutes. As we had a late lunch, we decided to share an entrée, have a main course each and share a desert. We... More

The great consistency of the food as well as the impeccable service at The Duke makes this establishment my favorite place whenever passing through the Bay of Islands. The Forest Mushroom Soup was exquisite as was the Hapuka & Tiger Prawn Risotto. Romantic tables outside, vibrant(perhaps a little loud) inside. It's never failed my friends I've referred here.

Dining with friends, on speaking to the head chef he recommended that the special of the day the slow cooked sirloin steak was that favourite of the night, and we had better - OMG!! How right the head chef was - thanks Daniel... For the starter a Tuna Tartare was my option, then the sirloin and to follow up with... More
