I always enjoy going to the Northstar, it is rare to find a restaurant that makes its own pasta, which is just mouthwatering. The staff are excellent and very obliging.

Great food and excellent selection of food and well priced for most wallets. Great staff. I could not fault this restaraunt

It's a shame about the lack of atmosphere at Northstar- everything is grey or beige (though comfy) and there are two inexplicable televisions playing sports on mute as you eat, mounted to the walls. If you go when the head chef, Pablo is cooking, the food will be undoubtably be excellent: on a recent visit I had the pork belly,... More

We stopped at the motel, but it was full. The manager, Cathy, called all other hotels in the city to help us find lodging. She finally found us a backpacking room just north of town, but she didn't stop there. She insisted on sending us with mugs and coffee for the morning. Then she decided to have the restaurant make... I would highly recommend this restaurant. This has all of the qualities of fine dining food but in a casual atmosphere. We took the teenagers out which worried me a bit but there was something for everyone. The steak meal was fantastic. My 16 year old raved about it and he is not easy to please, my daughter had the... I wish I could visit this place more often the food is amazing, handcrafted Pastas locally sourced ingredients and beautiful food made from scratch. What really stands out about The Northstar is its wonderful staff, I'm always made to feel welcome and nothing is ever an issue for them. Last time I visited I was seated near an older gentleman... We stopped at the motel after booking it online... Not sure what to expect. Arrived and found a very helpful receptionist... Great first impressions. The building is fairly big standard hotel looking. BUT... Rooms are approaching 5 stars... Very nice indeed. BUT... The restaurant is better than that even. A GREAT, meal... Very unassuming looking place. One of be better... More

You can't judge a book by its cover, because this unassuming place had some of the best food we have had on this trip. The service was wonderful. Can't go wrong with a meal here, and you will be very glad you did.

The Northstar Restaurant is Oamaru's best kept secret. The menu is not extensive but the food is excellent and for the quality of the cuisine it is very well priced. The latter also applies to the drinks. The only disadvantage is that it is in the northern part of the town and not overly convenient unless you are staying at... More

I've lived in Oamaru for just over 10 years now and have been to Northstar a few times since it was re-vamped but have never actually even walked around to the restaurant side of things, and what a surprise I got! The restaurant is well set out, for a Saturday lunchtime I was quite surprised as there was only one... More
