The Indian food at the Standpipe is justly famous and it's worth staying overnight in Port Augusta just to eat there. The service was engaging and cheerful -it was great to see young staff taking such care of customers out the front, while the cooks are as good now as they were 10 years ago. Congratulations to the Standpipe!

Let's face it this place is over priced, meals are OK, but the service is just like a scene from faulty towers.

The North Indian curry was the best my partner tasted in many years- he is a curry-and other Indian dishes- expert so this is no lose comment! Our vegetarian lasagna and oysters were excellent too, as were the accompanying wines. Service, although very good, felt somewhat impersonal. This incidentally complimented the decisively boring décor and very plain, uninspiring lay-out. However... More

choice of Modern Australian. . . . . or even better Authentic Indian. Everyone in our group and at nearby smaller tables have seemed comfortable and to be enjoying their food choices. A popular local venue far better than many big cities I've been in including New Delhi -Better tha.many big city restaurants : Indian menu. Can share a banquet.... More

The restaurant is housed in the old hotel that used to service travellers filling up with water from the last standpipe before heading north into the desert. The Afghan Cameleers would set off from this place and suitably this restaurant serves up some great curries! Try the goat curry, you won't be disappointed.

There is something for everyone on the menu - or two menus in one that is - a standard a- la-carte menu, and a full Indian menu. If you happen to be vegetarian, there is really nowhere else in this town. Having eaten here on several occasions, the food was great but we only ever chose from the Indain side... More

The service is fine, the food choices are rich and the cooking first class. Wine costs are also reasonable making the meal very economical for two at about $75.00 for mains and beverage.

Even if you don't stay at the Standpipe's accommodation this restaurant is well worth the visit. We enjoyed a lovely meal. It specialises in Indian and contemporary Australian cuisine.

Great food and service. Reasonable prices. Many vegetarian and gluten free options. Eat at the restaurant, but avoid the accomodation.
