Still as good as ever - a favourite

We were introduced to the BBQ Kiosk a couple of years ago by some German tourists staying with us. Following an initial visit fell in love with their simple well priced NZ seafood. Back in Kaikoura for a visit - so off to the Kiosk for lunch. Packed with touristsand locals as usual - this didn't... read more

I was advised to go there by local friends and it was great ! The seafood is fresh everyday (they close the shop in the afternoon when they sell out) and its excellent and not that expensive. You can try everything but don't miss the seafood chowder !

Were excited to try this seafood kiosk. But was disappointed. Firstly by having signs telling you to clear your own plates off your table. Then the flavour of the food was not all that good. Whitebait fritter was ok, but the crayfish fritter was eggy and you could not find any crayfish in it :(

We were told when visiting NZ that we MUST try the whitebait and paua fritters. Now maybe it's because I'm not a kiwi but they were very bland and flavorless, not to mention expensive. I'm very disappointed because the reviews on TA were pretty good so we were looking forward to it. Won't bother again.

It's a pretty long walk from town -- maybe 2.5 miles, but all flat so not terrible. Very popular place. We went there to try the crayfish ... they looked a lot like the Florida lobsters (no claws) that we get back home. Maybe it was the fact that the Kiosk was grilling them ... but we both found the... How can you go wrong with simply grilled fresh salmon or scallops? Remains a mystery. It was tasteless and unappetizing meals, unfortunately, as we really expected to have a simple, but yet tasty seafood.

Stopped for lunch here and had a beautiful lunch of garlic scallops with rice and salad, and mussels with bread. Tasty simple seafood for a good price and in an amazing spot.

We bought whitebait and crayfish fritters at 11am from here as well as a takeaway whole cooked crayfish for just $53. We took it away cold intending to eat it for dinner, it made it down the road about 200 meters where we parked and devoured the whole thing between the two of us. Excellent.........highly recommended!

We had seafood platter. Expected something very good based on our great seafood experiences in Blenheim. Got a platter of very mediocre seafood. We did not try their crayfish (lobster) because they were priced very high. We took seafood back to our apartment and ate it. Expected great seafood in Kaikoura and very frustrating to get average to less than... More

This was the first time any of us had tried crayfish so don't have much to compare to but it was very nice. Served with plain rice and salad (this was my only grumble that after paying $50 for the crayfish we were only given a very small portion of rice). Enjoyed eating on the seafront. Lots of other people... More
