We had a very nice Breakfast and the friendly staff made it all that much more enjoyable. It was a beautiful day so we sat down by the beach and enjoyed the great view while we ate.

Before we went on the dolphin watch tour we had breakfast at cafe Encounter, I had the muesli and I think they make the loveliest muesli in the world!!! MMMMM My family had the eggs benedict and salmon bagel, they looked a little bit lean but still were very tasty. We definitely will return here!! We love Kaikoura!!

I visited the Encounter café for lunch and ordered a tuna focaccia ($14.80NZD). When it arrived I thought that the other half had already been eaten or was hiding under the side salad, unfortunately not. We ordered a selection from the menu. The worse breakfast I had in a long time was here. Bacon was so dry we actually asked if it was microwaved. Mushroom, Tomato and hash brown were boring, scrambled eggs were pretty good but overall it was unpleasant. Just lucky someone had ordered the berry crepes which were great and the croissant...

The Encounter Cafe was great. We had breakfast there in the morning. Yummy croissants and chocolate swirl cheesecake. The flat white and the mochaccino were both outstanding. Very friendly staff. Free wifi with purchase.

Magnificent location opposite the sea front, open air seating if you desire, really good service. What really caps this place off though is the selection and quality of food.

We had breakfast here and sat outside in the sun and had the added bonus of a dolphin show as they were leaping from the water straight across the road. The service was good and there was wi-fi supplied to a certain value with our meals.

wow this place is amazing! The views to the beach were fab. the views to the mountains were amazing and the coffee here unmatchable in the sth island and definately in kaikoura!!! they come with little heart chocolates which is lovely and the fluffies are brilliant with a chocolate covered spoon. got a kids area outside and inside a box...
