Went here the day after a great evening dinner at The Green Dolphin and the food was bland and poor quality. Will not visit again.

This spot is a favorite of my families. My grandfather had been going there for years when it was more of a pub. We have been a couple of times in recent years and the food is always fantastic. We went just recently and had a great meal with great service and nice wines. The view to look out is... More

My husband and I had received a recommendation to come to the Pier Hotel for food. We had lunch on Sunday and it was delicious. We had a window seat that looked right over the water. We both had open sandwiches. I had a BLAT and my husband had steak. Good serving of chips and salad with the open sandwich.... More

We stopped off here for lunch on our way to Blenheim. The hotel is perched overlooking the ocean in a large historical building. The Pier Hotel was first built in 1885. We ordered the seafood platter which consisted off a selection of Kaikoura’s & South Island’s fresh seafood. House smoked salmon, calamari, steamed & marinated mussels, battered local fish &... More

The historic Pier Hotel is worth a visit for the views alone. We took an outside table in the evening sunshine, and it was glorious. The food was almost as good - the seafood chowder was delicious, and the crayfish was perfectly cooked. But for me the best dish was the calamari. The batter was the best I've ever had.... More

Sitting looking out at the mountains and the bay , enjoyed fresh cray fish was to die for. The crayfish was cooked to perfection and the seafood chowder was one of the best we ate in NZ. Love the whole area, well worth stopping at this place for lunch or dinner.

We had to wait for food as there was a sudden influx of people at 20 00 hrs but the fish chowder was well worth the half hour wait for food.

We often dine here on a Friday night when we come up to Kaikoura for the weekend, and I have to probably admit that it is very rare that we have ever had a poor meal here. I came up with three girlfriends last weekend. One chose the gurnard with grilled veg, which looked devine. She was very happy with... More
