A cosy restaurant and bar overlooking the sea. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and polite.

We were told the food was good here by the people in the motel we were staying in and they were not wrong. Had half crayfish which was absolutely superb and my husband had fish and chips which he said was brill. The service was good and friendly, The wine and beer was also fine.

Great location for a historic hotel bar and restaurant, The Crayfish was excellent and reasonable for half a fish which was plenty. Lovely views across the bay to the Kaikoura mountains. Recommended if you are in this area.

We orderd crayfish, the local speciality, and the food was fine and something you normalt don't get. On the negative side the servants were unprofessional and a behaved a little like that this was just a job, however the overall impression was positive.

This is my second visit to the Pier Hotel (the first was dinner in December 2012). I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit and was really looking forward to be satisfied again. Unfortunately it was not to be so. We ordered the seafood platter with half a crayfish which came up to a bit more than NZ$70 so we were certainly... More

I realise that as vegetarians in kaikoura we are on seafood's turf, but I would expect that if I order the only vegetarian option, a falafel sandwich, that it at least be edible. It was awful - I'm guessing they were pre bought and frozen, to the point where both my husband and I ate everything except the falafel on... More

Beautiful outlook and lovely old pub. Ordered the seafood platter. $35. 4 calamari, a little salmon, a couple of fish patties, 4 mussels in sauce, 4 crumbed mussels. Very poor show for a pub literally sitting on the sea's edge. Boringly derp fried. Other much nicer places to eat.

This place fills up fast so you may need tp make a booking if you want a meal!! The seafood platter was well received but I ordered the salad with falafels and the falafels were very undercooked and gross. The service was not very good and the free wifi lasts about 2minutes so be aware!!
