Love this pub - it has great photos around the walls of the history of the area and the pub. The Pier Hotel gets the last of the evening sun in Kaikoura and has excellent outdoor seating which looks out to a magnificent view out across the sea to the mountains. My friend's son, who is a connoisseur of chips... More

The crayfish here is very good, and the atmosphere very English Pub. Cosy, friendly, and casual. Prices are a little high, but well worth the view, and there is a nice little beach right across the parking lot where Paua shells wash ashore. Service was friendly and efficient, and our meal was very fresh. It was beautiful to watch the... More

We were staying down the road from the The Pier and decided to walk down for a beer while watching the sunset. Breathtaking scenery. We stayed for dinner and had the Lamb and Pork. Service was good and the food was really good with the only complaint being the pork cracking seemed about a week old. Apart from that we... More

While in Kaikoura I decided I wanted to try the famous Crayfish. After looking online I decided to go with The Pier and I was not disappointed. The dinning room was very comfortable and homey - just the right size and right along the waterfront. Our waitress was superb. Incredibly friendly and helpful. My sister has many allergies, including gluten... More

Very good food, lovely location. If you dine in for dinner, eat on the restaurant side, not the pub, as you tend to get forgotten on the pub side (which isnt bad with a full pint). The best chowder I have had, and great desserts too!
