Great Meal

A lovely experience with a great friendy atmosphere. I chose one of their most expensive dishes and wasn't disappointed. Local wines and drink selection. You need to book for a specific time in peak seasons.Crayfish was enjoyable.

Tried to get a table on a Saturday evening but booked up. Made a reservation for the next night. Lamb shank main course excellent. Great sea view from the dining room.

Just returned from a month travelling the South Island of NZ. Whilst staying in beautiful Kaikoura a local recommended we should visit the Pier Hotel. What a beautiful historic hotel with great views across the bay. I would suggest if you visit please stay and dine. The seafood platter was so good we returned some days later.

We were keen to hv crayfish in the mos talked about crayfish town. But they were scarce in the town. The Pier Hotel still had some so we went there. Smallest crayfish I had ever seen paid over $100 with 2 drinks and went home hungry. Views are great, service was okay, but wouldn't recommend.

turned up without a reservation but they made room for us and nothing was too much of a problem. Hadn't been feeling good that day so didn't want a full meal but they were happy just to serve as much as we wanted. Ate the meal at a window seat watching a fur seal perform for us. Idyllic. Book first... More

We were told that The Pier Hotel Restaurant was the best place for Crayfish in Kaikoura. What a disappointment! The dishes are overpriced and the food is not that good. The service is sketchy at best. If you're dying for crayfish, one of the roadside stands might be a better bet than The Pier Hotel Restaurant. I could not recommend... More

Situated on the seafront it has superb views across the bay. Sitting outside on a warm sunny evening with good food and a glass of wine, what more could you want. Gets very busy but the friendly staff seemed to cope well. Would go there again.

Although the food was excellent, and our server was friendly and attentive, we felt quite unwelcome when we arrived. Although we had reservations, we were made to feel as if we were inconveniencing the hosts, and they seated us only grudgingly. We really enjoyed our meal, but we would hesitate to return based on the initial lack of welcome.
