Good pub with good restaurant

The place was tomy, had excellent vies out to sea and provided very good food. Crayfish was a speciality but expect to pay a bit more for this speciality. Other options are good and the food was attractively prepared and good value.

Had dinner here with my wife on two successive nights. The food was good (fish and chips were delicious), the service was good, the view is beautiful, and the general ambience was pleasant. Would be happy to go back there.

Dropped by on a couple of evenings for a glass of wine and a cold beer. Nice spot right in town with good vies of the bay. Ok so,ect ion of wines, but served in tiny little glasses that are not nice to drink out of. Tried the salt and pepper calamari as a snack to go with drinks, really... More

Ignore the other bars which boast the "best views" - you can't even see the ocean! Go here. A pint costs the same as a hlaf pint ($6 in happy hour) and you can sit outside and stare at the beautiful Kaikoura ocean. Fab.

All pretty average. Nice view of the sea, but quite dark and dingy inside. The worst part were the waitresses. Most seemed to rather be somewhere else. Plastic forced smiles, abrupt manners. No banter- just took your order with no other conversation. Food was average pub food., with generous portions, but nothing special. Great background music though.

Our family had a nice dinner here recently. It is a great spot although a little plain on the inside. We enjoyed a nice dinner overlooking the ocean, sipping on the great range of beer and cider. The food was average and selection very limited. They advertise seafood, grill and pizza but only had one steak dish and very little... More

My daughter and I had a seafood platter at Sonic 2 years ago and it was so amazing especially the seafood gumbo. We have been waiting to go back there and today we made it. Tim who served us last time was our host again, he organised the seafood platter again for us even though it wasn't on the menu... More

This was the first time we had tried Blue Cod and we were not disappointed, it was delicious, the chips were also very tasty.

Dined here with my wife. We had had a drink here earlier and were impressed with the menu. The food was excellent the local fish in particular. Service was quick despite the pk]lace being busy. Wine a little pricey.

Ate here for dinner twice during our Kaikoura stay. Our first meal was outstanding - a delicious garlic, herb & cheese flatbread enjoyed with a glass of wine followed by Mustard Chicken with a creamy leek sauce on mash with stir fry vege. The veges were crisp, the chicken tender, the creamy leek sauce not too creamy and so tasty.... More
