Helpful staff, very pleasant

Friday night for dinner they were willing to have us and stay open when 3 others were not. Extensive menu, although we were rather shocked that the menu came laminated in plastic and you just chose the number next to the description. Getting over that, the meal was lovely and authentic starting... read more

Not recommended at all, they got sushi from the neighbouring fast food sushi bar and tasted very bad. The waitress spoke limited english and had a hard time understanding us.

The worst ever tasting japanese food in this entire world. The waitress kept on looking at us when we ate. It made us felt very uncomfortable. One word to describe it: HORRIBLE

Truly awful. Not actual sushi. Solid "blocks" of rice with deep fried junk on top... How you're supposed to eat "sushi" that size with chopsticks is completely beyond me. Total waste of $50. We couldn't eat it asked for a to go box because we were embarrassed and then chucked it away this morning :( will try Eagle sushi next... More

What a disappointment Asahi has become. Asahi used to be my favourite restaurant in Whangarei but the service and food quality has gone downhill. I had lunch there today with a friend and we were greeted by a very sour looking gentleman who seated us immediately as there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant. After ordering and... More

The food was fresh and tasty. Only issue was my pork was slightly over-cooked. I was surprised the place was not busier as the food is good value.

Went here with friends for a meal. Service was quick and efficient. The food was similar to what I have eaten in Japan, so was very happy to have food that had not been changed to suit NZ tastes. The food was fresh and plenty of it for a good price.

We eat here pretty reguiarly but with the improvement in the Whangarei restaurant scene, there's lots of choice now. I believe it's run by Koreans, anyway you get bulgogi with most things. Good food and they don't charge the earth for unagi (eel) like some places
