These are good old fashioned fish and chips. You can pick the fish out of the window and the lovely staff will cook it to how you want. The chips are homemade and not out of a packet and frozen within an inch of their life. Black sauce in an optional extra at no cost. I have never had a... More

We have eaten at a lot of places and could never find another anywhere in nz that offers bluff oysters as a standard in both the restaurant and takeaway bar, that can be served with eggs and salad. their chips are made from real potatoes that they peel and cook onsite. Though an oyster meal can be pricey, it is... More

Georges Fisheries is located on the main street (Victoria Ave) at the end closer to the river. It is an old fashioned diner / cafe that is attached to the fish and chip shop. The menu offered lots of different fish dinners as well as grills and burgers, as well as a variety of sides. The prices are very reasonable... More

Loved the blast from the past, old old fashion fish and chip meal, brought me back to my youth, a plate of fresh bread, free tea or coffee and a nice feed of fresh fish. Long may you continue to give us baby boomers memories of the good old days

Hands down, Georges is the best fish and chips in Whanganui. I've been many times, and not been disappointed yet. I love how you can pick your own fish from the window display, and they will cook it for you, or alternatively you can take it home fresh, and cook it yourself.

We decided to give this place a try since we liked the sound of it. We used the little dining room next to the fish and chip shop. We were amazed at the quality and the quantity of food we had. The fish was cooked to perfection in a beautifully light and crisp batter; the chips were really good. All... More

Georges battered fish is just wonderful, we've never had a bad lot yet. We do, however, always pick our own fish to be cooked from the window. Unfortunately I can't say the same for their chips. Please please please find yourselves another supplier, those chips are like piddley scraps swept up off the floor.
