A hidden gem

The first impressions are not overwhelming but the food is superb. A refreshingly different cuisine that nails it. Was back for my fourth (and best to date) visit recently, and the place was the busiest yet. A simple but delicious menu and can strongly recommend the beef or the ribs. Basic sides of... read more

I went for dinner with my mum and my two sisters to smokey joes in May 2015. I am allergic to nuts and the entire entree and mains menu is but free!! It was amazing to have freedom of choice! For entree we had crocodile and onion rings for starter! The crocodile was amazing! The batter was the perfect mix... More

It was very cosy, interesting and unusual. The food was presented beautifully and the flavours were sensational, esp chilli sauces. However, chicken was a little it dry, but the prawns were absolutely great! Very enjoyable.

Had a big family dinner here and we're looked after really well. Everyone loved their meals and there was enough on the menu to cater for my children as well. The only negative was that I had really talked up the Bananas Foster to my son - we shared it but it was no good as I remember it to... More

Really wanted this place to be great. The waiter was so friendly and very attentive. We had quesadilla for starter which was really tasty, just no where near enough side sauces. Please don't reply that we could have ordered more, it was very limited and that's that. We don't smother our food in sauce at all. My main was poor... More

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad that you found your server friendly and attentive, and that he was able to correct the issue you had with your meal. All brisket, when properly done, is smoked with the fat untrimmed. Though we attempt to remove excess fat before serving, some slices contain more than others and while many people enjoy the... Our experience of Smokey Joes has been excellent. Came here with an open mind and left looking forward to our next visit. We have been here three times now and yes we did bring friends with us on the 2nd and 3rd visits. We have tried quite a few of the dishes on offer and are yet to be disappointed.... More

The dishes were bland! I had the chimichanga and the beef inside had no flavor and was dry as a bone - except for the big chunk of gristle, served with some dry rice, that was after my dry popcorn chicken entrée. The banana desert was the saving grace. My husband had some equally ordinary food. To top it off... More

I can only write this off as a nasty April fool's post since our food can neither be described as "bland" or "dry". The restaurant is cleaned daily top to bottom, and front to back, and though humble, this is NOT a "dirty restaurant". Period. More

Loved our meal, had 3 courses, could hardly move by the time we left, tried to taste a bit of everything and it was all delicious. Super friendly service. Have eaten at lots of restaurants in New Orleans and this place is the real deal - in Launceston!

Best find in launceston !we had a fantastic meal. I had the BBQ half chicken with potato salad yum. The smoky smell hits you the second you walk in the door! Fantastic! Staff very helpful. Recommend the blackberry cobbler for dessert. I would go back again and again.

My wife and I booked a table at the above on Saturday14th March. We walked from our hotel across the park and after some difficulty found the restaurant in Lawrence Street almost opposite a pub but in what appeared almost a residential area. Upon entering it was very busy and we were shown to a table away from the bar.... More
