A playground on a plate - outstanding

We went to Josef Chromy's for my fiftieth recently and couldn't have chosen better. There was a strong Asian influence on the menu which wouldn't normally be my first pick, but I am utterly won over. My entree was a miso broth with soft egg, trout and shaved vegetables. When it arrived it was... read more

I don't often consider a 5 star rating for any restaurant as a matter of principal (it takes a lot to be perfect!) - but Josef Chromy's restaurant gets my gong for excellent food, professional service, and beautiful surroundings. If you're on the foodie trail in Tassie, this place is not to be missed. As locals, we took some much-travelled... More

It was our first time here last night, we attended a five course degustation, it was the most beautiful location I think I have been to in the north, lovely views and a really tastefully built and decorated space. The menu included wallaby tartare and chicken scratching and goats curd canapés, both beautiful. Then celeriac and goats curd, also lovely,... More

While I am no connisseur, it was the best restaurant meal I've had in years. We enjoyed a delicious meal with some beautiful wines in a lovely setting. Meal was fresh & tasty on a small but diverse menu. The service was attentive & thorough, the premises modern, clean & unpretentious. Prices were on the high side, but worth it... More

How wonderful to go to a restaurant where the wait staff are well-trained, know what's on the menu and have the right mix of professionalism and friendliness. We had mainland friends join us and they were wowed that Launceston has a restaurant of this standard, given their previous poor experiences at other supposedly good restaurants. The presentation and cooking of... More

Yes, the meal was ok, but not worth the expensive prices. The menu was limited, not even offering chicken on the menu. I had the pork shoulder, it was very greasy. Dessert offerings were were uninteresting. In short, this restaurant tries to be fancy, but it falls short of the mark.

We had been here two years ago but lunch last Thursday was superb. Great oysters, a delicious venison salad (that you need to eat to appreciate), delicious market market fish and slow cooked pork. Their high rating is well deserved from our experience - we will be back asap!

A most enjoyable dining experience. Welcoming attentive staff able to discuss the menu in detail. Love the fact that they have a 'dish to share' which means the small eater can't have an entre and share the main. The salmon and beetroot was delicious, steak cooked to perfection and the wines complimented beautifully. Immaculately laid tables and scenic views of... More

Alas our dining experience at Josef Chromy recently was most disappointing. Firstly, when I made the booking for a 12pm lunch for 2 persons, I requested a window table. I was flexible as to which day this occurred and when the staff member taking the booking suggested the Friday over the Thursday because they had a large booking on the... More
