This place lived up to all the great reviews. The steak was sensational, especially with the truffle bearnaise sauce. The wine list featured lots of local wines and the desserts were creative and delicious. This place is not cheap but for us it was worth every cent.

We had dinner at the black cow on a Wednesday night and we were lucky to make a booking as they were very busy. Meals were fantastic!!! Best steak I've ever had. The atmosphere is a bit awkward as everyone is squeezed into a tiny space and felt a little pressured by staff constantly watching our table waiting for our... More

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Black Cow. The wait staff are very professional and we were very impressed with their attentiveness. It is a bit exy but if you take a look at the menu online you will know what you are in for. During busy periods there is a good chance you won't get a table as... More

Although it looks fairly unassuming from the outside, good reviews and a promising menu encouraged us to give this restaurant a try. The service was outstanding, waitstaff were attentive without being pushy. The food was great quality. The rib-eye was huge and the eye fillet and vegetable sides all cooked to perfection. Our entrees and desserts were also imaginative and... More

Attentive staff. Bistro with top priced delicious menu - real focus on Tasmanian produce making it just the thing for mainland friends to explore the state

Nice small eatery with a table in their wine room for larger groups. Service was excellent, attentive. Food was good, but not great. One major faux pas was that while set menu said "white fish", that day they had bought fresh salmon instead... And forgot to tell us when we ordered it. Very disappointing. Plus, after having been raving about... More

If your after a bit of Cape Grim cow this place will be up as one of the best steakhouses you will eat at, saying that it gives the steakhouses on the mainland a run for their money! Make sure you book ahead as when we were there people were walking in and couldn't be seated till after nine. Only... More

Passionate staff, and a chef who fuses classical cooking with an Asian twist. We rocked up without a booking on a Saturday night - big mistake. Went to a wine bar around the corner, and 30 mins later we got a phone call to say a table was free. Despite it being 9.15pm, the Maitre'd was enthusiastic , informative, and... More

Visited the restaurant for a meal with family to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. Not a big restaurant. Seated about 40 with a separate area for a large group. Waiter was brilliant helping us with side dishes. My Cape Grim Cattleman's cutlet was large and cooked to perfection. The side dishes were excellent. For a top level steak totally recommend... More

Awesome! Really a must for steak (tender and tasty) with all the proper sides (wine, side veggies and cheese/dessert). Waiting for food might seems long for impatient, but it is definitely more than worth it.
