Great meal, great atmosphere

We enjoyed fantastic service throughout the evening at the black cow. Wine list is extensive and by region of Australia and internationally famous locations, we enjoyed 2 Tasmanian wines. Meals were sensational, you must buy a few sides as the steak literally is just the steak.

Lovely food and excellent service in a good location. One of the few restaurants open in the city on a Monday night.

This was the second time we have visited this restaurant in recent months and this time was seated at a nice cosy window seat. The waiters were well trained albeit a little orchestrated in their manner but they did listen and explain all aspects of the menu well. The food was excellent as was the wine. While the price is... Many have commented on the pricing but I felt the quality of the meals (It was our 2 yr wedding anniversary so there was a lot riding on this one) well lived up to the pricing - the wine and steak I had was a perfect pairing. If your after a succulent cut of meat and your not going down... More

We went to the Black Cow as we were told it was a sister restaurant to Stillwater which we all know is amazing!!! Black cow was ok but too expensive for what we got. The service was impeccable and the food was good but we were expecting to be blown away by the steaks and unfortunately we weren't. For $40... More

I found the Black Cow hard to review as the food was great but at the price they charge it ought to be! The food is five star but the value is one... The steaks are amazing, but you pay extra for sauces and all sides (except for pomme galette). The wine list is frankly scary - nothing under $50... More

We've tried a number of times to go to this restaurant so on our last visit to Launceston booked well in advance. We were not disappointed. Recommend this highly but it also has a price to match. We thought it was worth it though as the food is excellent, great wine list and excellent service. We will definitely be back.

We dined here on a Monday night in May and it was busy over 2 sittings so do book. We omitted to tell the staff it was an anniversary celebration and so were not shown to the intimate tables for 2 near the window but put alongside other couples where the tables were just too close for our liking ..our... Thank god we arrived early as we didn't book they had one table free. They where saying no to so many, so my mind said must chose hot spot as rest of street was quiet. Good was amazing for the oysters (natural) then a perfect cooked scotch from Cape Grim (yum!!!) and the sweets. Great wine list, as was only... More
