Description: We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

Steaks were succulent and tender. Entrees such as the potato and leek soup and prawn with fragrant rice was tasty and suitable for my 18months toddler. Friendly and polite service staff. Definitely a must to visit at mount gambier!

The. Best. That is all. If you don't eat a steak there at least once in your life you have never tasted what a really great steak is like. No visit to Mount Gambier is complete without a visit to the barn. Our favourite and can't wait to go there again. :-)

We had an 8.00pm reservation. When we arrived we were largely ignored as the restaurant was very busy. One of the wait staff had been in to the Piano Bar twice before she acknowledged us and that was only after I initiated the conversation. We were finally seated at 8.40pm ... not very good for an 8.00pm reservation .... no... More

Superb service and soft tender steaks of generous size. Unbelievably good wine list that rivals France Soir in Toorak. Best thing in mount gambier after a long drive from Melbourne on the way to Adelaide

Sunday night 15th June 2014. Setttled in looking forward to our steak - which was excellent all around (6 of us). However delivered with shoestring fries! and coleslaw! (Should have read the menu a bit closer as it has just changed according to the Hostess when we queried it). No offer of greens or baked potatoe during the order taking.

Best steaks ever!! Blue cheese injected eye fillet- enough said!! Service was fantastic, wine list was ridiculous and the food was cooked to perfection! Steaks were so tender, accompanied with beautiful sides and sauces and don't even mention the delectable desserts! If your in the mount gambier region you HAVE to put this on your to do list!

Have visited several times. Steaks are the best I've had in Mt Gambier - however inconsistently cooked. On my first visit the steak was delicious, on the second visit it was dry despite requesting the same cut of meat, and requesting it cooked the same way. Desserts are fabulous! Would love to try them all! The entree platter for 2... More

We decided to visit The Barn Steakhouse as we were staying at the Clarendon Chalet very close by & it had come highly recommended to us. We decided to stick to local produce & ordered a bottle of Mount Gambier Sav Blanc to trial, it was crisp, sweet & delicious, & we were very happy that we decided to give... More

The atmosphere of the steak house was old and safisticated very up market dinning with excellent table service. Wine selection was first class and the steak itself was of the highest quality. The only fault I can mark them down on is sometime the consistencey of the steak was a little off. Eg ask medium rare comes out medium etc... More
