We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

Without a doubt this is the best place in town for a fantastic meal. Pricey, but absolutely worth it. Steak is always cooked to perfection. Make sure you save room for dessert, so many delicious options!

In the the far south east corner of South Australia lies this hidden gem. The good at this regional restaurant is outstandingly fresh and the service is first class. We choose to go with seafood rather than their legendary steaks and was not disappointed. This place comes highly recommended.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary by going to the Barn, recommended to us by several people. It is a way out of town, so we decided to take a cab there and back, which added $60 to the evening's bill. Just a warning there. The Barn is a steak restaurant, so don't expect a wide selection of other dishes. I... More

The food is scrumptious. You won't leave a crumb on your plate it's that good! Service is friendly. Lots of wine to choose from. People complain about the cost but the food and service you receive matches the price.

We stayed at the Barn Palais for our 10th Wedding Anniversary and it was fantastic. Would highly recommend both the accomodation and the Barn Steakhouse. Our meals were incredible felt like we were in food Heaven! Loved the rib eye fillet that I ordered and my husband couldn't finish his porterhouse as it was so large! All the staff were... More

we had travelled for 6 hours to get to Mount Gambier. We were tired but not very hungry. Had dinner at the Barn's steakhouse. Wanted to share a meal. They would not let us. Seriously? We would have spent more because we would have ordered appetizers and possibly dessert. As it was, we couldn't finish our dinner and took it... More

Main course was nice, steak jacket potato and salad and garlic prawns with rice BUT the starter of garlic bread was rock hard, the water was tepid, had to ask twice for a drink that was ordered and the mustard never did materialise. Quite expensive too so did not have breakfast

Enjoyed a business dinner at the barn. The best fillet steak, entree and dessert. Certainly recommend this place to anyone visiting mount Gambier. Food, service, atmosphere - all 10/10 I will certainly be back
