We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

OMG

So we are travelling through South Australia and on trip adviser see that the Barn is highly rated. In truth, one of the best steaks I have had anywhere in the world. I was so amazed I had to ask where it came from. "The paddock next door" was the answer. No. Really? We stayed the night and up... read more

Upmarket locally grown beef, slow cooked, the charcoal grill runs 24/7 (shutdown only XMAS day). Neat dress recommended. Bit Pricey but you are definitely getting a quality meal!

Impressed with the number of diners venturing out of town on a Tuesday night. If it's is a steak dinner you desire The Steak House is for you. We enjoyed a Fillet Mignon each which provided a wonderful meat and cooked to our requests. Wine a little on expensive side but an excellent range, especially of the Coonawarra region.

We spent 2 nights at the Barn and after reading all the fantastic reviews about the restaurant we knew we would have to try it. Weather was cold and we were so thrilled to be given a table next to the beautiful open fire. The food was excellent and best steak (cooked to perfection) ever. Dessert menu was very good... More

Thoroughly enjoyable meal here. I understand it's a steak house, but seriously - one vegetarian choice these days? Granted the garden pea felafel (entree and main veg choice!) was good but one other to choose from would be good. Accompanying wines good - a bit on the expensive per glass price. Waitress very pleasant and knowledgable.

Prior to heading down to Mt Gambier on a business trip, I was advised by many people to head out to The Barn and have a steak. It is a short drive out of town, but was well worth the effort. The staff were attentive and professional, the selection of wines was fantastic, including a decent handful of 'by the... More

We stayed at Clarendon chalets just down the street, but wanted to have a special dinner out. Thankfully, I called to book in the morning. Staff were very helpful, even as the restaurant filled up on a Tuesday night. The Barn is not cheap, but the food is quality. My steak was just melt in mouth amazing. Sides of beans... More

Oh my, the Australian Whiting was so lightly battered and delicious, I would love to have it again and again. Everyone at the table had steaks and raved about them, but I am raving as well. We also enjoyed the walk-in wine cellar. What a wonderful way of displaying wines. We had two grea Australian wines; a Shiraz and a... More

We recently experienced a wonderful 4 course dinner at the Barn Steakhouse. Yes it was a special function and set menu for quite a large group however I could not fault the fine food and service! Far superior to Rockpool in Melbourne, and almost on a par with my favourite restaurant, Quay in Sydney ( except for the view ).... More
