We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

Have been to The Barn on a number of occasions and always had a good basic feed and good service. But this time 2 of us ordered steaks as usual - and both the mignon and the eye fillet were burned and bitter - almost inedible. Service is still excellent and the deserts generous but not good to have the... More

The food is very good, steak is cooked to your liking, service is very good and despite being an expensive place to eat, it is well worth it for a special occasion.

We have been going to The Barn for special occasions for nearly 20 years and we always have a fantastic night. The menu is great, the meal is excellent and the service is always friendly and informative. Highly recommend.

We came back for the second time in January for another meal ( the other time was in September 2014) and I can say the food is consistently very good along with the service. I have no hesitation to recommend this place but it would be wise to book in advance to this place.

We met friends here for supper one night. The food is good, although the portions are small if you are a big eater, you may want to order the larger portion sized meats. Service was not bad. There are not many other options on the menu if you are a picky eater.

The Barn is definitely a must if dining in Mt Gambier. We had the best Eye Fillet and Porterhouse, cooked to perfection. Side dishes were perfect. service very good. The only negative about The Barn is that it is too crowded with tables.

Went to a wedding reception. Big crowd but the service was prompt and professional. The Barn specialises in steaks and I wasn't disappointed when my Porterhouse arrived. Chargrilled medium and just right, very good quality. In fact all the food was very good. Comprehensive range of drinks served at the table and also a bar where you could buy whatever... More

Fabulous steak house set on a beautiful garden setting. 600g Porterhouse with pepper sauce was fantastic, superbly cooked to my liking and I wasn't hungry after! The carafe of bottled wine was great, situated out of town driving is the best way in and out. Staff were friendly and adequately staffed, decor was well suited for a steak house. Love... More

Great ambiance, quality food and exceptional service! We ordered the proscuitto wrapped chicken breast and the garlic prawns. Our son had the fish and chips from the kid's menu based on the recommendation of one of the waitresses. The food came out within minutes of placing the order. Portion size was decent and the food was delicious but the thing... More
