Description: We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

We had a room to ourselves for a party of 40 plus, the food was great and the service quick. The staff were on the ball all the time removing empty plates and glasses with quick topups.

Consistenty the best meal around. We try and get there once or twice a year as all 3 courses are always superb.

And we are not disappointed. The steaks are beautiful. The oysters divine. Only the cinnamon ball dessert was a bit off for us. But the rest of their desserts which we tried out for the second night was heavenly.

This is the place for meat lovers. Great meat and loads of it. Try the local wines which are the house specialities. They are great value.

Found the service excellent, set amongst really nice surroundings. The pricing was not over the top and the porterhouse was to die for. I would highly recommend to any steak lover.

The food was beautiful, the steak cooked to perfection. The local wines just divine. I was fortunate enough to also listen to a great jazz band afterwards! Would recommend 110%

The Barn Steakhouse is a rare jewel in Mt Gambier. We ordered the four onion soup, bone-in ribeye special and creamy garlic prawns on rice. The four onion soup was rustic-- but they could have put more cheese on the crouton. We could find no fault with our two mains. The bone-in ribeye was excellent value - a huge tender... More

City excellence at Country prices and the best steaks in the area. The "Barn" is situated a little out of town, but is well patronised on any night of the week, proving that people will seek out quality food and service wherever the location.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food in this place. We did not booked we took pot luck to see if we get in and on this occasion it was very busy. They said we will have a table for you in about 30 minutes. When we returned we had a wonderful dinner and the crème brûlée was just awesome along of... More

The Barn Mt Gambier The atmosphere is as it sounds Barn like one large room so you get to hear most conversations I have dined here before so basically knew what to expect. Good steaks done the way the chef wants, Which so far has suited me well. For starter I chose the pate house made with warm toast and... More
