We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.

Can't beat it!

The food is always wonderful. My partner demolished the new york strip (1kg fillet), it was that good. Blue cheese pocketed scotch fillet, to die for. The best chocolate pudding. Liquor coffee done right! Will always return when we are in town.

We managed to get a booking for a table for two at fairly late notice, despite the place being packed - which was a lovely surprise. The food really was lovely! I ended up having chicken wrapped in prosciutto on a bed of mash and broccoli, despite The Barn's obvious reputation for cooking steak but I don't regret it one... More

The menu included a 1kg NY steak and we four were convinced we would not be able to eat a steak each. True as it turned out but we did order three different steaks - eye fillet, fillet mignon and porterhouse plus garlic prawns. All three steaks were perfectly cooked and presented with the eye fillet a melt-in-the-mouth sensation, the... More

Never thought a steak could get better until i went to the barn in Mt Gambier. Wow, wow, wow. The steak was one of the best i have had in my life. The scallops entree should also be noted. A fantastic experience. Would consider flying up just for lunch! Well done guys - total respect to the food and customers.

We stayed and ate at the Barn for 3 nights, the food was first class. I am not a huge steak eater but went for 3 different cuts on consecutive nights as it was so good. My wife also tried the fish and this to was great. Many thanks to all.

We stayed at The Barn Accomodation and ate in the restaurant all three nights. The food is fabulous obviously the menu is limited as this is a steak house :) but they do offer alternatives. It is very busy and worth booking. The wines are excellent and the service is great. This place was full of couples, singles and families... More

My husband and I stayed at The Barn and had dinner at their restaurant on a Saturday evening. They made a special vegetarian plate for my husband of a baked potato, broccolini, and salad, I had the entree size of a grilled local whitefish with salad. The entree size is small (one fillet) so order sides or the mains size... More

I was invited to dinner as a guest of an appreciative client. Not being a local I expected a place named The Barn to be a saloon or rib joint. How wrong I was. It was a silver service, top dining experience which was, and remains, my most memorable meal for all the right reasons. Put this place on your... More

First of let me say that if you are going to go here, book in advance. Packs out real quick, and there's a reason for that. Their steak is the best I have had anywhere. The waitresses are very accommodating in helping you select how you want your steak cooked. My wife likes her meat well done which usually brings... More
