Promoted as one of Mackay's oldest Thai restaurants, it has allowed time to rob the cuisine of those elements that make an authentic Asian dining experience (much as has happened with the ubiquitous country-town Chinese diner). Nice service but a tired feel.

we have eaten here many years ago and it was quite good. This time things have changed. When entering we asked if they are using MSG (ajinomoto) and they said yes but can cook without adding it. I requested No MSG for one meal but I doubt the message was relayed to the chef. On two occasions I tried to... More

We started going to Toong Tong as we were after something spicy to break the "Mackay Cycle" of bland uninteresting food choices. The food was OK, but the spiciness obviously has been dumbed down for this town and while there are plenty of choices, you will pay for the privilege. décor is 1990's Chinese restaurant chic. Service friendly enough, but... More

We eat a lot of Thai food in Melbourne and with plenty of competition there are MANY great Thai restaurants to enjoy. Our takeaway experience here was well below average. The entrees were quite nice...we had fish cakes and curry puffs. Main meal was a Penang chicken curry...barely eatable. Main issues: bland sauce, poor cuts of chicken, small amount of... More

I eat ALOT of Thai food, have worked in Thai restaurants and spent quite a bit of time in Thailand. This is without doubt the worst Thai I have ever had. Tasteless Tom yum and larb and the meat in the curry was of poor quality. Their food misses critical herbs and spices that should be in Thai dishes. It... More

Went to Toong Tong Thai to celebrate a friend's birthday and found the staff friendly. Food was average - we got the $35 pp banquet with shared entrees, massaman beef, chicken stir-fry, pad thai and steamed rice followed by lychee or fruit salad & ice cream. The massaman beef was the standout dish for me. The other dishes didn't impress... More

The curry was great. Decent serve and good amount of meat. The pad thai was great and the extra prawns werent barely existant. Only downside was the christmas carols as i enjoy the traditional music. But that is personal preference only. All in all great meal!

I don't do chain restaurants for takeaway, and looking for a quick and easy dinner I scanned their takeaway menu and found it affordable and traditionally Thai. Service was kind and polite, and I wished it wasn't just a takeaway meal as the restaurant had lovely upmarket decor and a really nice ambience. My two fav. thai dishes were done... More

We came here on a Sunday night. Asked one of the waiters on what he would choose off the Menu. Every meal was perfect. The duck was incredible. The restaurant itself is fairly old and outdated but who cares. When you have good food, good service (and did I mention a Tv) who can compain.
