Sunday lunch

Second time here for Sunday lunch and equally impressed. Portions are huge!!! I didn't order a starter this time as I struggled to finish my meal last time, but our friends had the ham hock terrine and loved it. The pork belly main was divine. I was taken here as a surprise and the food was delicious. It was definitely a good surprise, the only disappointment was that my partner had telephoned to check that they catered for vegetarians when we got there the only vegetarian option as a main was mushroom arancini. However when we went to order we were told there was no... More

A typical bank holiday Monday, late rising and not sure what to do or where to go. We just wanted a light lunch, didn't want to cook but couldn't decide where. Twice previously, we had called into the Wheel at Branston on the off chance and couldn't find a table as they were full. So, let's call and see if... More

We booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch. The pub and dining room were both very busy on arrival, but we received a warm welcome, served drinks and shown to our table. The food was excellent throughout and the portions generous. We had the roasts, but it was good to see a variety of other dishes on the imaginative menu.... More

I took a punt on here from trip advisor review and glad I did. I was hoping it was near Grantham as I was travelling from Lincoln to London, however thought I ended up in Melton Mowbray (I think it's kind of in the middle of them). This pub is in a charming little village and well worth the drive.... More

Three seniors booked a mid week lunch at this country pub, and were a little reticent at the general outside appearance and car park entrance. Hopefully this will be tidied for the summer months. Once inside, the welcome from a young lady behind the bar was warm and friendly, and the whole atmosphere of the pub was delightful. Menus were... More

Recommended by a family friend, this beautiful country pub is well-worth a visit if you're on the look out for lovely home made food and a cracking sunday roast! The pub itself is quite small (booking in advance is highly recommended) seating probably between 30-40 people. We made the occasion special, visiting for a family members birthday recently and went... More

We ate here for the first time in several years on my wife's birthday. On a cold February night, the pub feels welcoming and cosy, although the bar was full of early evening drinkers. The dining room to the side is mainly for people eating, although a few tables were later taken by drinkers. It is a simply furnished, pleasant... More

We ate here on New Year's Eve 2014. The menu was interesting and the bar had a varied and good selection of real ales, that were well kept. The food was very disappointing. The chicken dish I had was inedible. The food was re-heated and over garnished. Nobody in our party enjoyed their meals. It felt that the pub wanted... More
