Lovely Meal

I visited for a family birthday there were 8 adults & 3 children! Menu was varied and included some regular pub type meals as well as some which were a little different. All the starters were delicious special praise was given to squid with sweet chilli sauce. Those that had the fish & chips said... read more

My first Saturday evening here and although it was a 6 o'clock pre-cinema meal, we did book knowing it is always busy! Glad we did as it was still as busy as ever. Lovely goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad to start followed by the beef stew with horseradish dumplings from the specials board, all washed down with a lovely... More

Spent a very pleasant Sunday lunchtime here after being recommended by family. The staff here are very helpful and attentive. Our table was cosy but there were a good number of larger tables in front of the windows, looking out onto the river. There is a large choice of food, which all looked inviting as it passed our table! We... More

A cosy Inn perfect for a meal down by the river. Very cosy in winter and plenty of seats outside for the summer. The very well decorated dining room with a modern twist. The food was excellent with a good selection from local produce. I especially liked the lighter and smaller portions if you don't want a large meal.

We were staying in the area for a couple of days and whilst we were there we ate at The Butt and Oyster 5 times - 2 breakfasts, one lunch and 2 suppers. I could not fault any of the food. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The views out on to the river are lovely and there are... More

Taken to the butt after a family outing to the Ipswich portsmouth fa cup tie . Some ioswich fans and some Pompey meant a great atmosphere . I was really impressed with the place. My crevettes were lovely and the rump steak(cooked rare) was as near perfect as you could get. Of course the prices are not cheap because the... More

We stopped here after a New Year's Eve walk along the Orwell, it's a great riverside location which presumably makes it very popular all year round. A bit of character inside and a good amount of seating outside - a marquee/gazebo was up over part of the outside seating area to provide a bit of shelter in the winter weather.... More

We visited several times over New Year as we were staying close by. The staff were very friendly, the food delicious (we had the halloumi and the burgers), and a nice selection of beers. All topped off with a great view over the Orwell.

My last visit to this restaurant was not a happy experience. Trying it again was a leap of faith which was worth the risk. This time we ate in the bar area and not the restaurant. It was crowded during the holiday and we were lucky finding a space in the restricted car park and a table in the crowded... More

We came here for a couple of beers in July. The inside of the building is wonderfully old fashioned. I was expecting a little more of a choice than the standard Adnams Ales but never mind - the ghost ship went down well. We sat outside and mellowed as it got dark.
