Nice place, good beer!

Simple but nice, good food honestly prepared. The Beer I had which had the word 'Ghost' in it was a real treat. I had the fish and chips, nothing fancy but very delicious. If you go try and get the table in the bay window on the deck (they call it that) it has a sensational view over the River... read more

Great beer, food and atmsosphere - should be part of a pilgrimage! The setting is staggeringly special. The big "giveaway" that you are in a great place is the number of (friendly & happy) locals.

I used to go here a lot a kid but haven't been in event years. They used do lovely home cooked food and held special memory's. My most recent visit didn't dissapoint. Being a Sunday the place was busy which is to be expected. The guys at the bar found us a table in the upstairs part of the resturant.... More

We have been here on numerous occasions visiting Shotley Gate firstly for a walk with the dogs and then back to The Butt & Oyster for a bite to eat, being dog friendly. Just such an atmospheric pub with so much history, and we never tire of visiting. Managed to get the table by the bay window in the bar,... More

We came here for early evening dinner on a Monday. Our friends had recommend this restaurant as it was the "flagship" of the Deben Inn group.. It was fairly quiet when we arrived and got a table with a nice river view. Service started ok and my chorizo and scallop starter was lovely. My wife chose the burger and really... More

Have frequented this pub for 35 years and have found the food going down & down....I used to have a brimming 1/2 pint prawns which came with a large chunk of bread and a side salad...it's now reduced to a scant 1/2 pint (I'm sad and counted them the other day...18 prawns, 3 thin slices of obscure bread & no... I stumbled on this site from a photo on a calender! We decided on a country walk followed by pub lunch, not knowing anything about the place decided to reserve a seat. Friday evening 5.30 I logged on to their webb page and easily managed to send a request, within 15 minutes they responded, they could not offer my time... More

My wife and I popped into the Butt and Oyster for a Monday lunch and were surprised at how busy it was - in fact so busy we had to park in the 'pay and display' car park a short walk away! We have been occasional visitors to this pub getting on for 50 years and it was reassuring to... More

thus was a lovely spot to top for lunch after a walk. We opted for sandwiches and although nice they were a little expensive. The bar was very busy and service was not as good as you would expect but this could be due to how busy it was.
