Big, but friendly

We were put off initially by the size of the restaurant, but it soon became obvious in talking to the locals, that if you wanted to eat "Italian" this was the place to go and it did not disappoint.

We were welcomed and seated quickly. It is obvious that this restaurant works on turn over and it felt quite soulless. The selection on the menu was good but this was the most expensive place we ate at during two weeks travelling the South Island. My meal was fine, with lots of elements (fish, salsa, risotto) but the serve was... More

Delicious! Superb food and authentic Italian staff. We were pleasantly surprised to find vegetarian and non-cheesey options for the vegan / lactose-intolerant amongst us. Grilled potatoes, grilled vegetables and pizza bread with rock salt and rosemary and a tasty vegetarian pasta. Great value kids’ meals! The $20 500ml carafe of Italian house wine was smooth and great value (rest assured... More

Welcoming and helpful staff, great quality food. We initially went into the restaurant just to keep our daughter happy, however after reviewing the menu we saw it had a good selection, and were even happier with the taste - this was one of the better meals we had in our two weeks traveling around the south island.

Four of us ate here, each enjoying a different dish. All excellent. The service was fantastic. Our waiter and waitress were attentive but not intrusive. Fabulous wine. Fabulous complimentary limoncello. The pizza chef is gorgeous.

Huge restaurant and a bit noisy when we arrived but quietened down later. Food OK but service a bit relaxed - after our table was cleared tried to catch the eye of our server to order an espresso and when I did, she simply continued doing some general tiding on the other side of the room.

I came across tripadvisor by accident almost while looking for something else, so thought I would check out reviews of restaurants I've eaten at in my home town of Te Anau. I was more than surprised at actually finding good reviews of Cafe La Dolce Vita, as my one and only experience eating there was not good. I didn't really... More

We did not come to New Zealand looking for good Italian food, but we found it at La Dolce Vita. The lasagna was the best I have ever had in my life -- and I have eaten my fair share of lasagnas. The restaurant is huge and I don't know that reservations are needed, even during the peak season. La... More

Like a few other restaurants in Te Anau, this one clearly caters for coach parties passing through to Milford Sound - it is a very large space, and atmosphere suffers slightly as a result. Regardless, our experience there was excellent - very helpful service and excellent food. We were lucky enough that they had crayfish tails available as a main... More
