Very Italian - that's good

Good service, great terrace if the weather permits, owner who makes everyone feel welcome in a very Italian way. Entrees were excellent - salmon and the prosciutto and melon. We were recommended this place by the maitre d' at our hotel. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, which should have been a good sign, but unfortunately, it was not. We were a party of four and shared garlic bread and a fish antipasto as a starter. This was OK, but not terribly exciting: a piece of salmon,... More

Excellent food. The place got very busy later in the evening and we felt sorry for the waiters who were, literally, running around. More staff would make it less stressful for them. Would go back, but early in the evening!

We dined alfresco at this very good eatery in the heart of Te Anau. There are a surprisingly high amount of Italian restaurants in what is a pretty small town but this one lays claim to being the only one owned and run by an Italian family. I had the venison and it was to die for, my wife had... More

We are staying in Te Anau for a few days and trying out eating places. We checked out the menu and were offered a table by the owner. The people on either side soon left and other people sat at the tables. We felt invisible as these folks were offered water and menus, whilst we waited. The waitress came and... More

Having been in New Zealand for over three weeks we were delighted to find our second real dining experience! The menu is wide ranging and this is a true Italian restaurant. There are many cafes and restaurants in Te Anau but the number of people dining al fresco at La Dolce Vita tells it's own story. Delightful staff.

This is a large restaurant with many outside tables classily covered with red and white table cloths. You’re seated by owner Roberto in his strong Italian accent, offering a choice of sun or shade. Mrs P chose two dishes from the starter menu — pizza bread and Caesar Salad. I chose Penne Puttanesca and a mixed side salad. Mrs P... More

Dined with friends while staying overnight in Te Anau. While I would not recommend anyone staying in Te Anau..(it's a deplorable, boring little town)..La Dolce Vita serves awesome food. I had the pasta with venison and it was the bomb! Friends meals were gorgeously and deliciously executed as well. The staff was extremely confident and competent, and accommodating. Lot's of... Staff really good, friendly and authentic Decor lacks a little soul, feels like a big canteen rather than intimate dining. Food good, not cheap but not outrageous.

Fun place, hilarious owner, good food and wine. Don't go if you are in for a serious foodie experience, but great for a relaxed evening with laughs and lemoncello! Ideal for groups, families and relaxed couples :)
