Ordered blue and chips - delicious!! Definitely worth the trip here - was on Stewart Island on a dreicht day and stopped here for lunch. Service was good - very welcoming and got my fish & chips very quickly. Check opening time of Kalikart as it's not open all the time. Best fish and chips I've had for ages!!

Obviously not enough customers for anyone to show interest. Pity as what this town really needs is a take-away store. The lunches become really expensive at the other options. Have enjoyed very much the chowders and cod dishes at other places but we don't normally have that style of sit-down meal every day when we travel.

Loved sitting out in sun to eat out of paper and drinking L andP The fish was as fresh as can be,we were right by the harbour and had lots of hungry seagulls about. Didnt have to wait long for the meal...kart isnt open all day so make sure you check the opening times

The owners could not find anyone to run it this season, so no fish and chips on the beach this year.

As recommended by our guide book we tried the fish & chips at KaiKart Takeaways. I think we had the beer battered blue cod. Because it's a takeaway only with a few benches outside and the weather was rainy we took the meal to our backpacker lodge. The fish was good but the chips were a bit soft but I... More

The food came highly recommended, but it's only takeaway. On our second visit we were disappointed that we were not permitted to sit inside, even though it was raining and there was an empty table. So that time we went to the South Sea instead.

We had great blue cod and chips from the KaiKart, recommended by fellow travellers.

Had lunch at Kai Kart. They will cook the fish you catch for $3 / piece. Batter is a bit thick and not crispy enough. Chips are nice enough. Staff were a bit ordinary- very gossipy, not friendly and always looked to be trying to con you out of an extra dollar. Probably wouldn't eat there again. Eat at the... More

We were keen to try the KaiKart as we'd read good reviews, but found it a bit average. We bought our meal at around 6 pm and our impression was that the oil wasn't hot enough. The cod and chips could have been crispier. Sons, however enjoyed their hot dogs and burger, respectively.

The KaiKart is locally highly recommended and is often frequented by backpackers eager to get their daily fat boost! Personally we found the price of 2 pieces of battered cod and a handful of chips at $13.50 was a bit expensive. Sure the fish was pleasant and well cooked with quality chips. Check out the photo and decide for yourself.... More
