Superb meal!

We came here as a family on our last night in New Zealand to celebrate a great vacation. The food and restaurant lived up to its reputation as one of the best in Queenstown. We enjoyed a selection of the bites, starters and entrees and all were very good, especially the lamb rump entree and salmon... read more

I celebrated my anniversary and birthday at Rata with my husband. The restaurant was recommended by a friend who is a chef and it lived up to expectations. The service throughout the evening was first rate - personable and effortless. The wine recommended by the waiter was wonderful. The food was also fantastic. Despite a mix up with the starters/... I had planned to ask my fiancee to marry me in the middle of winter in stunning snow flaked Queenstown and chose Rata to pop the question at. The maitre'd was very helpful in assisting with the plan which invloved booking us the best table in the restaurant tucked into the beautiful native backlit area; surreptitiously commandering the ring from... Our dinner at Rata was the best dining experience that my husband and I had during our recent two week holiday in New Zealand. A beautiful dry Riesling (Pisa Range Estate) was a perfect match for the Bluff oysters and diamond shell clams with samphire and seaweed butter. A roasted venison loin main (with braised cheek, roasted carrot, kale, cauliflower... More

Excellent service and atmosphere, and the food and wine definitely worth writing about. Great menu and a nice handy location. I had my doubts about the goats milk cheese cake but it really was a highlight!

We came here as several people had told us this was the best place and reviewa online also great but sorely disappointed. Both salmon and cheese entrees and pork and fish mains were very forgettable and lacked any great flavours. The rasberry dessert and cheeseboard were great but overall will not be returning, the waitress needed to be asked several... More

We couldn't resist their $30 three course lunch while in Queenstown. This must be the best $30 spent this holiday! Beautifully prepared and presented food in a magic setting...what more could you ask? We raved over the salmon and were surprised by the mussels, while the gingerbread pudding and cheese plates hit the spot. Service was very friendly, helpful and... More

With great food, a special atmosphere and super staff, we hope to return next time we're in town. We particularly liked the plants in the window boxes around the windows which added to the ambiance. All of the dishes were superb, but the standout were the desserts. Sadly, we were told that the pastry chef has moved on, but let's... More

Three of us for lunch. Cool layout, with adequate distances between tables. Friendly staff with attentive and knowledgeable waiter who knew the menu and the wine list (not large but more than adequately). The slow cook shoulder of lamb was amongst the best we ate during our two week stay in the south Island. We liked the place and would... More

after eating and enjoying blue cod for the last forty years ,what was served up as blue cod at rata can only be described as YUK ; how a chef could ruin a lovely moist fish with a conglomeration of oils ,herbs and other tastings i will never know.. blue cod has a beautiful flavour - enhance it but do...
