Good food but very noisy and not ideal for a good chat

We went for dinner on a Friday night. Probably not a good night if you want to sit and chat - very noisy. The dinning area is adjacent to the bar area so this does not help with the noise level. The service was polite and very efficient. Once ordered the food did take a little while to arrive but... read more

We don't go out a great deal and returned to The Kiln after about a year, rembering how we had enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and great service previously. The service was reasonable. The food was a let-down sadly. Also the atmosphere was noisy and intrusive. There were groups of people intent on drinking only, and feel that separate screened-off... More

First of all the restaurant sign can be a bit tough to spot in part because it is one of Monteith's Bar and Grills so watch for both names. We did not have a reservation but were seated quickly. Our waitress must have been new because she couldn't answer our questions but she always found the information we requested. My... More

Hadn't been for three years and was great last time, so was keen to see if it was still the same. We were seated quickly and drinks arrived soon after. We started with a very generous serving of breads and dips which was delicious. Mains arrived one a salmon on risotto which was heaven in a bowl, the other a... More

We had fish and chips and beef fillet, both meals were of a decent size and the fish and chips were really good; however the fillet beef was not the best I have tasted, I don't know if it was because the beef was from a Hereford cow, but it tasted different somehow. The waitress was very helpful and friendly... More

In town on a week night this place was busy. Always a good sign when the locals pack it out each day. Good snacks & good vibe.

My wife and I had lunch at the Kiln midweek, there was only about 4 tables with customers, the rest were empty. Good service and the Seafood Chowder was one of the best I have had. Sat by the fire which added to the atmosphere. Would definitely return for another lunch. Only negative comment I would have to make, which... More
