Best fish n chips in Invercargill

Can't recommend this fish and chip shop highly enough. We read that the blue cod was fantastic - so right! Wish it was my local. We had chips and blue cod, so delicious with a very light batter and judging by the amount of people coming and going while our order was cooked, the locals know it's... read more

Mainly annoyed they never use chicken salt when asked :) Many other choices in town. I hear it used to be much better

Herbert st takeaways are the best in Invercargill for the quality of the chips and the burgers and blue cod are super. If we are having fish and chips we always go to Herbert st because we know their superior quality. The staff are always very pleasant too!

The oysters and chips we had last night were superb, perfectly cooked. A little unassuming place but the nicest fish and chips I have had for a long time and I'm sorry to say better than any fish and chip shop in Dunedin!

As touring Brits we miss fish and chips like we get back home. It seems we're not going to find English style chips, but nonetheless the blue cod was nice, batter lovely, chips were tasty (although resembled frozen ones) BUT they didn't have any vinegar. You can't have fish and chips without vinegar. Hit the spot though

A little pricey but you are definitely paying for quality fish & chips! The chips are never soggy like most other places, they're crunchy and always well cooked, same goes for the fish the batter is crunchy and golden and not goopy and yuck, crumbed is awesome too, I would usually get blue cod which the servings are small as... I'm writing on behalf of my mother, an Invercargill resident for 60 years, with a first-class reputation of her own in local business and food preparation. She has no personal connection whatsoever with Herbert Street Takeaways but has used it for fish and chips for over 13 years. She is with me as I write and tells me they do... More

You would never think to walk into this tiny place unless someone told you about it. We had an order of fish and chips plus an order of fish for less than $10 NZD! And it was absolutely delicious, some of the best we have ever had. There is no seating in the place, but there is a park with... More
