The Speights Ale House in Invercargill is great. I don't rate the Dunedin one at all. The Invercargill Speights Ale House is lovely food, and great value for money. Service can't fault the service, friendly and always ask if you want another drink, which I find some restaurants don't. The only thing I would say is that it is a... More

This is an all round no matter what your age, great restaurant to go to. The food is good. Has a live band most Friday and Saturday nights which are great for a sing along and a dance. Always has the fire pumping if your cold and a great outside area too. Great staff with a friendly atmosphere.

Initial greeting was there will be a wait for the drinks ladies. No hello how are ya?? Nothing at all. A simple hi while carrying on working would've been fine. Seated ourselves with a menu. Other staff said the right things but looked like they were bored out of their tree and felt like were reading off a script. Chicken... More

Love the place. Friendly staff and cold Speights beer. Steak and lamb shanks very good without breaking the bank. A cold winter July night warmed by great meal nice location. Returned after our Stewart island visit next night and even better. Will be back for sure.

I've been here with my partner or a group a few times and I like the fact the menu can cater for a large number of needs, ie there are light lower calorie options, vegetarian options, meat lover meals and all! However the menu does give a great overview of NZ foods for overseas travellers, ie oysters, lamb, NZ salmon... More

Great menu with loads of choices - a struggle to decide! I had the pork belly and couldnt finish it. Fantastic table waiter who genuinely knew the menu well and did a great job of up-selling that we totally brought into. My favourite Speights Ale house - great, authentic vibe, genuine hospitality and decent quality meals. Think Lone Star but... More

Not the best experience we have had here. Whilst my meal the pork belly was good enough hubbys meal t-bone steak was well and truly overdone, he ordered medium, so over cooked it had no taste. When asked how the meals were when waiter took plates away hubby said it was a bit overcooked he cleared the plates without saying... More

Lovely atmosphere , good service and very affordable. The food was very tasty but maybe just too much on the plate. Probably why there were so many doggie bags going out.

Awesome!! Just delicious! Waitress told us the specials, I had the Pork roast with crackling and my girlfriend had the Venison Hot Pot. Both were amazing! Mix that with some Pinot Gris and Speights Black Pilsner and that was a winner of a night!
