Lively bar with slap dash food

Large noisy bar with alehouse decor and fair choice of dishes. Can cater for large parties without loosing sight of tables for two. Our ribs were thrown on top of a pile of chips and the whole smothered in a sweet sauce, which also tainted the salad so the whole meal had the same flavour. However... read more

we went on a Sunday evening a it wasn't busy which was nice. We had the shank dinner and the bangers and mash. Both were very large portions! The old dark was a great beer to accompany. The service was good and we would go back.

We expected to have to wait a while for our food as the restaurant was busy, but the meals arrived very quickly. And the food was nice. We sat upstairs on the balcony which we found entertaining. Nothing fancy, but we were happy.

Had dinner & drinks after the brewery tour and cannot fault it. Food was delicious and great choice of beer, great service and atmosphere in the bar too. Would definitely visit next time we are in NZ.

You would think with the dawn of restaurant reviews, restaurants might rethink their service M.O. I ordered a steak, medium rare. I was served a steak that was still blue on the inside. The server offered to 'reheat' my steak and I said no thanks, just inform the chef. Nobody came to apologize nor offer to comp anything for my... More

We met our family, over from Australia on holiday, at the Alehouse on the night we arrived in Dunedin. The meals were very nice and the Staff very welcoming.

This restaurant was really busy being a friday night and the cricket had been playing in dunedin. We called in and waited for a table for about 10 minutes only then was shown to a table. The food was lovely, I can recommend the lamb shank with the roast veges. The service was good, great place to go if you... More

Group of four, made very welcome by awesome staff. Beers purchased we settled in to one of the many different styles of seating. There was bench seating, bar stalls and low couch type seating. Very friendly staff looked after us very well. Great menu options catering for most tastes and wallet sizes. Could have easily whittled the day away in... More
