We ate here twice whilst in Dunedin & the service was quick & the food was piping hot delivered to our table. Average price for 3 of us for tea with no alcoholic drinks was around the $60 to $70-00 mark. We ate early between 6.00pm & before 8.00pm as reviewing the restaurant on Trip Advisor, if you eat on... The food is amazing and the price is one of the lowest we have found. You will get a choice of real NZ food and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Went on a Wednesday night, was very busy but we enjoyed a drink around the fireplace and after a short wait managed to get a table for an early dinner. We had eaten here before a few years ago and on both occasions the food and service was great.

On a Wednesday night and still packed. One big space so it is noisy. Meals very generously sized. Asked for medium-well and got very well done instead which was annoying for an expensive steak. Waitress happy to return it though. Clean toilets.

Even though the restaurant was full, we were able to eat at the bar. The food was the same, and it came very quickly. We enjoyed our meal a lot and recommend the place.

My partner and I really enjoyed Speight's Ale House when we were in Dunedin. I really liked the Speights Triple Hop Pilsner and the Distinction beers, and our meals were delicious!

Normally we try not to return to nay places we have been as there are always so many choices but this trip we actually returned after eating here 12 years ago. And not just one but both nights on this visit. First night had a lovely pear salad as our previous trips Lambs Fry and bacon was no longer on... More

Had two visits to the ale house very good on both occasions. Very large portions so be aware ordering a starter you may regret it later. I struggled on the large lamb shanks as it is two shanks and twice as much veg as the small. Thankfully the Speights Summer ale washed it down. The ale houses are terrific if... More

Big isn't always best and that is something to note here. We went into this empty restaurant for lunch and because we had no booking we were placed in a table at the bottom of the stairs outside the kitchen door. At no time during our lunch did any of the other tables get used. Our server did not interact... More

Visited Speights twice, first just for a drink and thoroughly enjoyed their beer and wine. On the second occasion we decided to eat here as well, which was a big disappointment. I had the pork ribs, big, chewy, grey things in an insipid sauce with some very indifferent chips. My wife had the lamb shank which was just ordinary. On... More
