I live in Dunedin and whenever I have people visiting, i will always book a table at plato. The food is great everytime. The service is always really good and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. I would recommend this restuarant to anyone who wants a nice night out.

Plato is off the beaten track in a warehouse zone about a 4 minute car ride from the Octagon. The decor is somewhere between a Mondrian dream (the geometric red, white, yellow etc) and a 60s cafe (slung back black vinyl chairs). But the whole point is the food. The owner/chef whoever is obviously brimming with ideas as the menu,... More

Absolutely beautiful food and friendly team of servers, only wish I didn't need to fly to Dunedin to go there

We went here as a couple then took friends here a few weeks later. All of us were impressed by the service and raved about the food. We particularly loved the vegetarian options (although none of us are vegetarian) they were so flavoursome and right on point. Only didn't like the decor which has put us off coming for quite... Although we enjoyed our meal here and the décor (retro collections and iconic NZ furniture - not sure about the positioning of the old dentist chair near the entry door!) the wine was seriously over-priced for a New Zealand wine and as some others have said, I did get the impression that the restaurant is trying too hard to be... I recently had lunch here with a big group. The decorations are fun to look at, very quirky. I struggled to find something on the menu that I wanted to order. Jjust think they are trying to hard to be trendy and would be better just providing great food. My fig salad was lovely but had no protein on it... More

Its a long time since I last visited Plato, but I do know its Dunedin's best restaurant, hands down. A bunch of crummy meals elsewhere recently have reminded me of it, and I will be back soon!

From the minute we walked in the door our experience was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful, décor different and food delicious. Will definitely return on our next visit to Dunedin

Our hotel manager recommended this place and we drove around in circles until my wife spotted their sign. The atmosphere is early organized bric-a-brac. It appeared to be a quick lunch place. Seafood is the speciality and both my wife and I had wonderful meals. World class and in the top 5 places we visited in NZ on a 5... More
