Stayed very near by and after reading reviews decided to give The Black Dog our breakfast business. Convenient to the hotel for sure, the service was good and the serving sizes were ample. The Hollandaise sauce was cool on our eggs, and although finding the kumara rosti interesting we would have preferred more traditional toast. An average experience.

Had a business dinner here with good clients, the two ladies running the place made our night. They are funny, give attention to detail, give great service and are cute too. Oh and the food is good also

We headed here for brunch, just because I was too lazy to cook! They were really busy, possibly because there had been a big game of rugby on the night before and also a winter carnival, so probably a few extra people around. We just rocked on up without a booking (yeah I know) and they were really busy, but... More

I have been there numerous times over the last 5 years, sometimes against my better judgement, and have never had a nice coffee yet.

This is a great cafe for both breakfast and lunch. Next door to the Scenic Hotel that you have a choice of where you wish to eat. I love their portions, and the variety of food they produce. I always have a nice meal here.

Very handy location from our accommodation and the picture theatre around the corner. Had a meal before watching the movies. Were worried about it taking too long but we'd only just finished entrée and main course was served. Ideal for us. Friendly staff but a bit too relaxed almost rough service. Clean restaurant and ok meals.

Two stars is for the food, which at its best is basic cabinet food. The meals are under par. The service is truly awful and atmosphere is basic .

While the place seemed popular, it did seem as though it was a matter of merely getting you in, feeding and then moving on. It was not much more than a cafe. Staff were not all that welcoming and we might as well have been at any cafe. It was hard to tell who the staff and customers were, as... More
