Came here for a casual dinner with a group of 10 or 12. Great service, staff were very friendly. I had the beef burger which is good value, a decent sized pub meal for a low price. They've got Macs on tap & bottles of Emersons Pilsner and Porter in the fridge.

Delicious food! & great student type prices! One disappointment were the waitresses whispering behind us. The service wasn't a very pleasing experience at all. As a first year student celebrating my birthday, I felt actually quite intimidated by the female waitresses that were waiting on us. Not very impressed at all. Got warnings to hurry up and make orders as... More

I've been here 3 times in the last fortnight just for muffins. They're huge and delicious. Good value in a combo with a coffee for $6.50. The staff are friendly and the meals look good too so must come and give dinner a try.

Great value for money and larger meals. I had the fish - and it was like 2 servings. Well cooked grilled fish with ample vegetables. Value for money.

We had breakfast here one morning but were disappointed with the menu choices. The muesli which my husband ordered was just a cardboard box plus a plastic container of fruit. When you eat out you would usually expect homemade muesli or similar. I requested whole grain bread with my poached eggs & bacon, but the only choice available was white... More

We were wandering in downtown Dunedin and came across the Black Dog Café at lunchtime - what an excellent choice! I had a beautiful salad - a pile of fresh greens with chicken breast strips, lots of big avocado chunks, and halved cherry tomatoes in a light lemon and olive oil dressing. My husband had a huge grilled chicken sandwich... More

We arrived unannounced (group of 8) and they simply took it all in their stride serving good food in an easy, relaxed environment. Highly recommend to all and seems to have a good reputation with locals Well done folks and made for a remember-able night

It has some nice little private areas to sit for a peaceful conversation. Staff are pretty top notch. However the lighting throughout the day can give a somewhat gloomy effect

Excellent food and service, meals are great value and of consistently good quality. Breakfast, morning tea, lunch and dinner, have never been disappointed. Linda and the staff are great and always have a warm welcome with friendly banter. $6 takeaway coffee and muffin is an awesome deal, and for something different try the kidneys and mushrooms for breakfast, comes with... recent price increases slightly dampen what was the best deal in town! What was possibly the best burger in NZ at $10 is now $11.90 BEEFBURGER the CHICKEN BURGER from $10.90 to $16.90 still good value but not a SUPER-DEAL
