Not open Monday

We drove into Dunedin from Port Chalmers for lunch, at this highly recommended establishment to find it closed until 5pm, and so we never found out how good this place was.

Had a meal with friends and family in quite a big group. Went to the bar upstairs first. Cocktails took a wee while and the male barman was taking the dour Scotsman persona a little to heart - or maybe he'd just had a bad day. Went back downstairs for the meal, which was good and enjoyed by everyone in... More

I think it had all been said. Central location, wonderful service and perfect food. The atmosphere in the old character building was great. We remember the building when it was the children's library back in the 70's. The menu is interesting with the hare which my wife had and the 3 way pork that I had standing out. Of course... More

From the great building, with a fantastic facade, through to the excellent food, Scotia is a great all round experience making it a must try. Climbing the staircase to the Doon bar with a huge range of whiskeys you reach a very cosy & welcoming bar. We (3 of us) were able to take a very tasty Emmerson pilsner out... More

I love this place! Great food, great service, relaxed environment. I love that I can come to Scotia and enjoy beautiful food with the pretense of some fining dining restaurants. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice meal out.

Located just off Dunedin's Octagon area, Scotia offers just what a discerning diner seeks: superb fare expertly prepared and served, a pleasantly serious atmosphere, and a perfect location. Our menu choices ranged from my partner's haggis starter, to my chicken rillettes and my partner's imaginative seafood stew as mains, to crisp vegetable sides for the both of us. A raspberry... We spent 3 days in Dunedin and without a doubt Scotia was the best restaurant we went to. The service was flawless, the food was good, portions were good and the atmosphere was relaxing and very conducive to a good dining experience. It was so good and the menu had so many interesting items that we talked about booking it... More

This was recommended to us by an air stewardess on Air New Zealand and we were not disappointed. A limited menu but very high quality food. The restuarant is ideally located and the atmosphere is perfect with really helpful staff. A bit of a tip the main courses are generous so think about whether you need any side orders! It's... More

Hard to fault this restaurant. Generally great food, great service, great atmosphere. I have never had a bad meal here. My only negative would be that the menu has hardly changed in the last couple of years. Nonetheless it is still my first choice for a special meal.😀
