One of the best dining experiences ever

Recently stopped in on a trip to New Zealand and they were kind enough to accommodate us without a booking. Will be one of the meals I remember for the rest of my life. The food was absolutely wonderful and I really enjoyed the Scottish stonecutter ale.

The food is good, there is no doubt but it's not brilliant. What I didn't like was that it took a full 55 minutes from the time we sat until we were fed. That is too long. A waiter told me this was normal for food prepared from scratch. Their menu is not large, it shouldn't take so long. I... More

Great food, service and adtmosphere. I had the salmon and the lemon dessert - outstanding. Can't wait to go back.

All I can say the food service and atmosphere was so good. I had to go back the next night. The wild hare was superb and the goat tangine was perfect. Plus as superb whiskey selection, what else does a grown require.

We had a lovely evening at Scotia. We were in a big group and they kept things moving nice and smoothly. The food was lovely, and the decor dark and quite traditional. Do try the haggis - it is actually really good. Lots of menu options - all very good. I would certainly recommend this as a place to go... More

i feel our evening didn't do this restaurant justice. We had an 8pm booking & ended up in an area with all business men. One group was very loud with very inappropriate conversation which detracted somewhat from our evening as a couple. The food was good & the service efficient.

We drove into Dunedin from Port Chalmers for lunch, at this highly recommended establishment to find it closed until 5pm, and so we never found out how good this place was.

Had a meal with friends and family in quite a big group. Went to the bar upstairs first. Cocktails took a wee while and the male barman was taking the dour Scotsman persona a little to heart - or maybe he'd just had a bad day. Went back downstairs for the meal, which was good and enjoyed by everyone in... More

I think it had all been said. Central location, wonderful service and perfect food. The atmosphere in the old character building was great. We remember the building when it was the children's library back in the 70's. The menu is interesting with the hare which my wife had and the 3 way pork that I had standing out. Of course... More

From the great building, with a fantastic facade, through to the excellent food, Scotia is a great all round experience making it a must try. Climbing the staircase to the Doon bar with a huge range of whiskeys you reach a very cosy & welcoming bar. We (3 of us) were able to take a very tasty Emmerson pilsner out... More
