Through the Blue Police Box (Dr Who fans beware!)

An unusual place, as suggested by the above title. Food was very good, the environment in the front was idiosyncratic and the staff excellent - friendly, cheerful and helpful. Would certainly visit again, if ever in Christchurch. We went as a foursome and were well looked after. The barman in... read more

Decent environment. But abit let down with the decor on the table. White paper table top with two HUGE clips on the side holding it together on the table. Beef tartare was decent. Had the Canterbury duck for my main and it was over cooked. My partner ordered the wild venison and it was the highlight of the night. I... More

The decor here is described elsewhere as idiosyncratic but we were pleased with it; the cocktails were fine and the food excellent. Reviewing the memory of this I have upped the review to 5 stars.

I went to Cooking with Gas with a group of business colleagues. There were 8 if us and we were seated in the room in the back which in my opinion is lacking atmosphere. The room had a musty smell and personalay if I eat there again I will ask to be seated in the front if the restaurant. The... More

We spotted this as we walked past and popped in to book a table for that evening... Very welcoming reception. Great service and delicious food. Pork belly was huge and wonderful, with good crackling. I requested a change of potato accompaniment which was willingly substituted, so I was very happy. Highly recommended.

It was by chance we ended up at Cook'n' With Gas. After a full day of travel from Sydney and a slightly complicated check in at a hotel, hubby, preschooler, baby and I had set off in search of a restaurant. After taking a wrong turn, we got disoriented and lost, and ended up walking down Worcester Street, where we... More

what can i say...... great food and service, good company and an all round fantastic evening. The TDH menu was good value if you want 3 courses, and the mussels were divine. Not cheap but as with so many things you get what you pay for.....

Situated just in the next street from the Orari B&B where we were staying is the delightful Cook`n with Gas. This was the second time here having eaten here Three years ago. The food was excellent and couldn`t be faulted for both myself & my wife. The service was very good and we had a lovely evening.
