This is one of our locals . Since becoming a coeliac and the need for gluten free food this changes your eating out choices . We have found the staff welcoming and so friendly . Always helpful with gluten free choices . Menu is real Indian food not out of a bottle. The flavours are thorough and strong . Always... More

This is the second time I have had dinner here and it was superb again. This time I requested dairy free and they produced a fantastic curry full of flavour and really enjoyable. My friend and I are trying to work our way through every Indian restaurant in Christchurch but this will be hard to beat I think. The food... More

On a cloudy and windy Sunday evening New Brighton reminded us of Verona Beach out of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet: tired and faded, sad but not without it's charm. There are few options for dinner. A good bet might be fish and chips sitting on a bench by the pier watching skateboarders... if you can keep the seagulls at... More

We ordered a take away and had a slight misunderstanding between the two branches, but once that was sorted and we got our food wow it was one of the best Indian take away's i have ever had. I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the portion size was great, enough to last us for lunch... More

Had a fantastic meal here. Our prawn curry was cooked perfectly, prawns were not tough like in other curries we have had, but plump and juicy. Service was fast and my son loved being able to see the chefs at work in the kitchen. Nice and clean with good service. Couldn't fault a thing. We will be back.

I dont really eat at Indian restaurants as find them below an 8 however this one I would give a 10 and it was well earned. Very clean, smells good and service very good. Keep it up.

It's not easy to find a good curry in New Zealand, let alone in a city where most restaurants have been closed or relocated due to earthquake damage, but South of India sets a good standard that few others can claim to meet. Well worth a visit for some fantastic onion bhajias and a smashing lamb dhansak!

We have been using the Christchurch Hospitality vouchers for all sorts of restaurants and attractions, but here at the South of India in New Brighton they refused to accept one for a large take away order. The voucher did not have any conditions on it about take away orders. In hind sight perhaps I should have asked at the time... More
