We took the TripAdvisor recommendation on this restaurant but were really worried when we arrived at the restaurant...it looked like a Tudor restaurant out of the 1970's. Our worries were dispelled after the first course. The food was fantastic and the service wonderful. St. Germain is a genuinely French restaurant, backed up by outstanding French meals.

We visited St Germain just prior to Christmas and had a really superb meal here. We opted for the 5-course surprise menu with matching wines and each course was a delight. The staff were very happy to accommodate our food dislikes and willingly answered our questions about the various French wines that our dishes were paired with. This is certainly... More

Don't let the location in what looks like a Tudor style motel dissuade you (we later found out that after the earthquake, the restaurant had to move to this location) as the food was superb. We enjoyed an eight course chef's tasting menu with wine pairings that had French influences (go figure as the proprietors are French) which provided 7... More

We last visited St Germain about 2 1/2 years ago and was not overly impressed. But, no worries this time. Absolutely superb. My wife and I had escargot in a light cheese sauce and a goats cheese soufflé as entres. Mains were veal in a beautiful crust and duck ala orange plus sides of pomme frit and beans. Desserts were... My partner knows that I am something of a Francophile, having worked for a French company in the past. So one Saturday night she surprised me with a visit to St Germain for one of their Beaujolais Nouveau menu's. The experience - despite the Tudor English style building - was typically French, and for me wonderfully Breton... slightly surly staff... More

Went for our weeding anniversary with good friends and seeing as we had all been to Paris it was kinda cool to experience the French meal in the French atmosphere. Service was excellent, food yummy. Overall a great night.

The service was excellent, the food the same with good wine choice. A restaurant where one can hear the other diners at your table with no background noise drowning out a conversation. Heavy drapes, carpet and fabric on dining chairs help to make it a pleasant experience to be with friends at the table. We were late arriving but no... More

Looked up on Trip Advisor and read some good reviews about this restaurant. Decided to try out this place with my mum on the last day we were there for our visit. Use the address on Trip advisor and it was the wrong address. We drove there and realised it was a residential house. So I rang up the restaurant... More

This restaurant was on our Christchurch list due to positive T/A reviews. We called and inquired if a reservation for 8:30 pm was necessary and were told “not this evening, just come on in and we will be able to seat you”. When we arrived we were a bit surprised to find that the restaurant is inside a rather nondescript... More
