TnT great french in Christchurch

Well this is the closest you are going get to a true french restaurant anywhere in the world including France. From the moment you enter and are greeted by the staff with a Bon Soir you know this is going to be good, the reviewers told you so. The food was excellent very well executed and... read more

Bland, uninspired, over-pretentious food! The orange duck portion ungenerous and very tough, filet steak full of sinew, with a beetroot puree almost inedible. I would not call this a fine dinning restaurant. I feel the price can not be justified by the food or service. I personally would not recommend this restaurant and would never return again.

Simple, subtle, sophisticated, sublime. Each dish left you wishing you could lick your plate. French cuisine as only the French prepare.

We always make a point of eating at St Germaine when visiting ChCh. We have never been disappointed, nor has anyone we've introduced to the restaurant. Love the location, setting and decor, but most importantly the ambience and authenticity. The food is always excellent whether ordering a la carte or the tasting menu with matched wines. We'll return next visit!

I went with reasonably low expectations being a restaurant located in a hotel that is a little passed its prime. However the food was perfect we had three courses.with the arrival of each course was an aroma that made you immediately want to try your dish never, have I experienced this on all dishes served. The dishes were also perfectly... More

My husband and I went to St Germain for our wedding anniversary in January 2015. We were allocated a "romantic" table by the window, which was further away from the other tables. It was a very thoughtful touch. The restaurant setting was fine dining but it wasn't serious nor too formal. The background music (French and lots of accordion) helped... More

Where to start, food was very tasty and well cooked, HOWEVER Portion sizes were miniscule. ie teacup size soufflé, fillet steak and crème brulee, Not what I expected, for the price. Drink waiter very inattentive, cleared glasses and did not enquire if another was required. When another waitress was flagged down, she claimed she only spoke French and could not... More
