Governer's bay hotel is one of those gems, where you sit and think, there's nowhere else I would rather be. The views are gorgeous and the food and wine selection excellent. The hosts make you feel very welcome but are unobtrusive.

My wife and I, on our honeymoon (from California), had a wonderfully relaxing stay at this great example of kiwi hospitality. We spent a long weekend at this lovely old hotel where Jeremy and Clare (the hosts) were very welcoming and most attentive to our needs. We visited this bar/restaurant twice during our stay in Christchurch in December 2011. On both occasions we had good weather and were able to sit in the garden and enjoy the views across the bay to the Banks Peninsular.
